Position Function, Purpose:

The main function of the Millwright is to maintain, repair and upgrade Ready-mix concrete plant equipment as directed.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Maintain mechanical equipment in proper operating condition
  • Repair and troubleshoot equipment failures
  • Preventative maintenance inspections on assigned equipment and complete accurate reports
  • Removal and replacement of outdated and unused equipment as assigned
  • Report any deficiencies to the supervisor
  • Install equipment as instructed
  • Housekeeping duties as assigned
  • Any other duties as assigned


  • Industrial Millwright Mechanic Ontario Provincial License, or Completed Millwright Apprenticeship (2nd or 3rd year apprentice with 6 months to 1 year from writing test is acceptable)
  • Ability to obtain structural welding certificate

Skill Requirements:

The Millwright must have to ability to perform the following functions:

  • Welding, cutting, brazing on various types of metal as assigned
  • Read blue prints and layout drawings
  • Basic Machining (drilling machines, grinders)
  • Inspect, troubleshoot and identify problems with pumps, blowers and compressors
  • Install, remove, troubleshoot and repair belt conveyor systems
  • Bearing lubrication, application, removal and installation processes
  • Inspect, troubleshoot and identify problems with pneumatic systems
  • Troubleshoot and identify problems with electrical systems: Low voltage power transmission, and basic electrical control systems
  • Identify, select and inspect rigging equipment and tools, and apply proper rigging techniques
  • Inspect, troubleshoot and identify problems with gear drives, v-belt drives, gearboxes
  • Alignment principles and tolerances
  • Work from service manuals and with OEM
  • Operate mobile equipment required to perform job
  • Good written/oral communication skills

Working Conditions and Physical Demands:

  • Working outdoors and varied temperatures and weather conditions
  • Working indoors in varied conditions (ie. hot, noisy, dusty)
  • Effortless mobility through all areas of the plant
  • Sporadically working in confined spaces and working at heights
  • Physical abilities to perform duties as described


Health and Safety:

  • Comply with OHSA and all of its applicable regulations
  • Use of Personal Protective Equipment as prescribed
  • Comply with CRH Canada safety rules, policies and procedures
  • Report all incidents and near misses
  • Report all safety hazards
  • Follow Lockout/Tag out procedures
  • Emergency response plan awareness
