Position Overview
 

The Business Relationship Manager (BRM) is a thought leader that is responsible for understanding the business, directing IT strategy in support of business strategy, assisting in the identification, prioritization and execution of projects, ensuring that IT solutions align with the technologies and programs that provide maximum return on investment, and contributing to the continual improvement of IT’s services.

 

Key Responsibilities (Essential Duties and Functions)

 

  • Build relationships with key business stakeholders and work to gain a strong understanding of their strategic direction, operational needs, trends, constraints, opportunities, etc.
  • Maintain a high degree of visibility within the business, attend business meetings and appropriate management forums, and provide a central point of information for all related IT activities.
  • Create and execute key account plans and a relationship management strategy for assigned Groups and/or Divisions.
  • Work closely with the business leaders to support them through technology planning, advising on how to exploit existing and emerging technologies, and ensuring alignment with the Oldcastle Materials IT strategy. 
  • Identify opportunities for IT to better support the business, and promote IT as a trusted delivery partner.
  • Create business requirement documents that accurately reflect both strategic and tactical business needs.
  • Oversee IT programs and projects being deployed within their assigned Groups and/or Divisions by:
    • Acting as a sounding board for ideas and approaches to solving project issues that have program impacts.
    • Identifying scope, success criteria and cross-project dependencies.
    • Ensuring that projects receive adequate resources and funding by following governance processes and procedures.
    • Monitoring and reporting on project status.
    • Acting quickly to manage urgent issues and championing them until resolution, escalating when required.
    • Ensure that expected outcomes are achieved.
  • Play a proactive role in defining service level needs.
  • Act as the voice of IT within the business.
  • Maintain a detailed knowledge of key IT services and align demand for projects and services with the IT portfolio.
  • Manage business demand and assist with project prioritization by focusing on cost / benefit analysis and identifying measurable business value.
  • Assist in the design and development of information technology architecture and roadmaps by providing business perspective, requirements and process information.
  • Drive IT communization and standards within the business.

 

Qualifications

 

To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily.

 

Education/Experience

 

  • MS/BS degree in Computer Science, Engineering or equivalent is preferred; five+ years related experience; or equivalent combination of education and experience is preferred
  • Previous experience in a business relationship management or business leadership role is preferred.

 

Work Requirements

 

  • A solid understanding of the business and significant knowledge in subject matters pertaining to both IT and the business.
  • Skilled at working effectively with cross functional teams in a matrix organization.
  • Ability to communicate IT objectives and direction to the business.
  • Work with the business to shape, develop and execute strategic plans and initiatives.
  • Ability to assess the current state environment, capabilities and performance of business and IT.
  • Monitor and recommend improvements to IT processes.
  • Drive adoption and compliance of IT policies and procedures within the business.
  • This position requires travel to customer and non-customer sites (estimated at 25%).

Work Environment

 

  • While performing the duties of this job, the employee is occasionally exposed to wet and/or humid conditions; moving mechanical parts; outside weather conditions; and extreme cold and/or heat.  The noise level in the work environment is usually quiet to moderate.
