Position Overview

 

Reporting to the VP, Infrastructure & Operations of CRH Americas Materials, the Director of Infrastructure Engineering leads the teams responsible for the efficient and effective delivery of all IT infrastructure capabilities across the organization while developing and implementing a transformational infrastructure roadmap in alignment with IT and business strategic plans.  The scope of responsibilities includes creating and maintaining an infrastructure delivery strategy and standards that aligns with the organization’s project delivery and operations practices and performing strategic planning, architecture, design, and delivery for the company’s North America network and centralized and distributed computing solutions (including IaaS/Cloud solutions, PaaS, SaaS, Colo/Hosted/Managed data centers, and onsite servers, storage, etc.) spanning the US and Canada.  In addition, the teams reporting to the role are responsible for the strategy, architecture, and delivery for corporate email systems, collaboration systems, internet services, and video conference platforms. Critical to this role will be the effective vendor/partner relationship management as well as prudent cost management.  Success in this role will be defined by the ability to demonstrate that the company has a scalable, agile technology infrastructure that delivers the appropriate business data and applications in a sustained, highly available manner to our business partners and customers, while constantly ensuring data and solutions are delivered securely.

 

Key Responsibilities (Essential Duties and Functions)

 

  • Provide leadership and drive to ensure that the CRH AMAT IT Infrastructure Engineering team consistently meets its objectives on time, on budget, and to quality and security standards as agreed.  Establishes business aligned roadmap and priorities, develops and enforces standards, and sets deadlines for the team.
  • Take ownership of all projects within the Infrastructure Engineering team and align with AMAT IT Governance’s defined financial, compliance, program, project processes and practices, maintain plans and schedules, deliver projects and services with agreed benefits within time, budget and quality standards, and provide clear operational documentation.  Responsible for managing the Infrastructure Engineering budget and identifying opportunities for leveraging our scale to simplify and standardize to harvest savings.
  • Establish North American architecture and engineering standards for storage, compute and voice/data communications infrastructure, and cloud computing and ensure their application and performance across all system design, development and maintenance activities.  Includes delivering and managing data hosting and computing capabilities (cloud, managed, and colo).
  • Partner with the global CRH IT organizations and IT Applications and Architecture teams to understand the enterprise and application roadmaps, application architectures and application designs, to provide appropriate input on infrastructure capabilities, constraints and opportunities both for projects and production operations.
  • Provide leadership to subject matter experts serving as an escalation resource for the Infrastructure Operations team in the day-to-day maintenance, break fix, and support for AMAT’s IT infrastructure needs.
  • Partnering with the AMAT IT Governance team, create and maintain an infrastructure service delivery model that aligns with the defined financial, compliance, program, project processes and practices.
  • Participate in the creation and implementation of the IT Infrastructure Engineering strategy that aligns with the IT Operating Model and supports the IT applications and services strategies, creating a clear roadmap for the technology infrastructure, the associated operational model, resourcing model and vendor selection.
  • Partnering with the Business Engagement Services teams, establish remote server strategies and standards and assist with improving availability, cost efficiency, and serviceability for end point technologies.
  • Partner with the relevant business functions and teams to develop demand projections and capacity plans for the enterprise production environment, including communication bandwidth, storage and processing capacity, information security and physical IT facilities.
  • Maintain current knowledge of industry best practices and technology advances. Develop relevant strategic plans and supporting project proposals to allow AMAT to exploit relevant technology in order to grow revenue and earnings, improve competitiveness, reduce cost and manage risk.
  • Work as part of the I&O team leadership in carrying out effective IT financial responsibilities, including establishing and managing a budget, determining appropriate IT service chargeback/show-back.

 

Qualifications

 

To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily.

 

Education/Experience

 

  • 10+ years IT experience, demonstrating advancing scope and level of responsibility
  • Undergraduate Degree in IT or Business equivalent
  • Substantial experience successfully creating and managing an enterprise infrastructure and delivering infrastructure projects in a growth-oriented enterprise
  • Experience successfully managing third-party providers/suppliers, including selection, contract negotiation, service delivery management and dispute resolution.
  • Experience successfully introducing new governance, tools and processes based on industry standards such as ITIL, PMBOK, COBIT, CMMI, etc.

 

Work Requirements

 

  • Ability to travel up to 50% including overnight travel as required by the business
  • The position will require work outside of normal business hours

 

Knowledge/Skill Requirements

 

  • Strong business acumen, with experience effectively managing sizeable budgets.
  • Effective team and personnel development capabilities with focus on customer service.
  • Experience with cloud computing architectures including Azure and AWS.
  • Versed and competent in ITIL based IT Service Management process development and management.
  • Working knowledge of standards and compliance objectives such as SSAE16, PCI and Sarbanes-Oxley.
  • Ability to present ideas in concise, business-friendly and user-friendly language
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Excellent interpersonal skills
