Manager in Training (MIT)

 

We’re looking for an ambitious and organized candidate who will enjoy growing with a company to join our team. The MIT program marks the beginning of a journey that will yield a rewarding career in the diverse culture of Oldcastle Lawn & Garden. For a period of about 24 months, MITs will rotate through various locations and departments to learn operational functions, such as production activities, manufacturing processes, plant management, safety, quality control, finance, business development, customer service, maintenance, transportation, human resources, and much more.  There is no such thing as a typical day for the MIT candidate, as every day is different with new challenges and growth opportunities. During this period, MITs will be assigned a managerial mentor to aid in continuous feedback and growth.   MITs will ultimately be equipped to:
 

  • Coach, guide and direct collaboration between all local and company departments to allow future focus and daily execution.
  • Achieve the profitability of a plant by managing key metrics and costs relating to labor, production planning, maintenance and material management.
  • Create a sustainable team that's accountable for safety, performance and developmental guidelines for talent management.
  • Drive accountability of all direct reports by conducting periodic meetings and measuring results against the company's goals.
  • Collaborate daily with the sales and customer service teams, and deliver quality products on-time and ensure optimal customer experience.

 

Once the trainee's performance warrants advancement, they will be reassigned to a business unit to assume a leadership role such as an Assistant Plant Manager or Plant Manager within one of the Oldcastle APG's company locations.
 

Requirements/ Education / Experience
 

  • Mobility and readiness to travel
  • Willingness to relocate to a specified location to receive a permanent assignment
  • Leadership and/or managerial capabilities
  • Problem solving ability
  • Bachelor's Degree in Business, Construction, Mechanical Engineering or equivalent
     

 Preferences
 

  • Experience within the manufacturing, or building materials, or related industry
