Operations Performance Systems (OPS) Overview

Oldcastle APG has launching an effort to significantly improve overall operations performance.  The effort focuses on margin improvement and involves developing and rolling out a set of operational business best practices, referred to as OPS.  OPS initiatives will include production, production planning, transportation, procurement, talent management, and performance management.  By implementing operational best practices, and by providing our local sites and companies with the tools and resources to put this into action, we expect to gain significant improvement and overall profitability.


Our OPS team will provide our operations and executive teams with skill building and strategic operational processes, and the tools necessary to become a professional, world class organization which drives increased profitability and employee satisfaction


Operations Development Manager – OPS Position


This will be a full-time position.   The person in this role will gain experience through cross functional, cross business unit and senior management exposure.  Operations Development Managers are expected to implement new processes, tools and operations approaches on local company site(s) developing site champions and advocates.  In addition, the person in this role will be leading strategic, companywide key initiative(s) providing an opportunity to develop influencing, project leadership and strategic management skills.   


Key Responsibilities


The person will be expected to participate as a member of the OPS team to develop long term strategic initiatives, key performance indices and personal developmental opportunities.


The person will work on site with local business leaders to:


Analyze current site performance along OPS initiatives including:


  • Production
  • Production planning
  • Transportation
  • Procurement
  • Talent management
  • Performance management
  • Refine and implement OPS tools and best practices across the OPS initiatives listed above
  • Coach employees and lead training sessions on the OPS tools and best practice processes
  • Coach site and company leadership best practices in conducting shift, daily, weekly and monthly performance discussions


Additional duties may include:


  • Application and tool development
  • Business process improvement
  • Other duties as required


Work Requirements


Candidate must be willing to travel up to 70% of the time to various sites/companies


Knowledge/Skill Requirements


The ideal candidate will:


  • Demonstrate business acumen in operations, finance, or IT (3+ years of related experience )
  • Be action oriented and drive for results
  • Demonstrate strong, oral communication and listening skills
  • Be able to deal with ambiguity
  • Ability to facilitate change
  • Demonstrate a hands-on; collaborative approach
  • Be able to coach and develop others; share his/her knowledge
  • Have strong planning and organizing skills
  • Work well in a team and build relationships
  • Ability to analyze volumes of data, synthesize and communicate critical findings
  • Ask good questions to get at root cause of problems
  • Manage vision and purpose
  • Management experience preferred
  • Project management skills a plus
  • Business process improvement skills a plus
