Position Overview

 

The Systems Administrator II is responsible for effective provisioning, installation/configuration, operation, and maintenance of systems hardware, software and related infrastructure. This individual participates in technical research to assist with the delivery and ongoing support of innovation within the infrastructure environment. This individual ensures that system hardware, operating systems, software systems, and related procedures adhere to organizational standards, controls and best practices according to industry standards.

 

Key Responsibilities (Essential Duties and Functions)

 

  • Manage and monitor all installed systems and infrastructure
  • Install, configure, test and maintain operating systems and system management tools
  • Proactively ensure the highest levels of systems and infrastructure availability
  • Monitor and test application performance for potential bottlenecks, identify possible solutions, and work with developers and Infrastructure engineers to implement those fixes
  • Maintain security, backup, and redundancy strategies
  • Participate in the design of information and operational support systems
  • Provide 2nd and 3rd level support
  • Liaise with vendors and other IT personnel for problem resolution
  •  Perform daily system monitoring, verifying the integrity and availability of all hardware, server resources, systems and key processes, reviewing system and application logs, and verifying completion of scheduled jobs such as backups.
  • Apply OS patches and upgrades on a regular basis, and upgrade administrative tools and utilities. Configure / add new services as necessary.

 

Qualifications

 

To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily.

 

Education/Experience

 

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science, Engineering or other related area or equivalent experience.
  • 4+ years Microsoft systems administration experience.
  • Extensive knowledge of Microsoft Active Directory
  • 2+ years’ experience with Microsoft Clustering
  • 4+ years of Windows Server 2008R2/2012
  • 3+ years of VMware - build, configure, administer, and monitor
  •  2+ years of experience with Enterprise storage solutions

 

Work Requirements

 

  • Ability to travel up to 10% as required by business needs

 

Knowledge/Skill Requirements

 

  • Demonstrate a hands-on, collaborative approach; works well in a team.
  • Demonstrates strong oral / written communication and listening skills.
  • Strong action orientation, drive for results and attention to detail.
  • Strong analytical and problem solving skills.
  • Ability to multitask and manage shifting priorities in a fast-paced environment.
  • A solid understanding of LAN/WAN networking
