Position Summary


The primary role of the Sales Manager is to provide leadership and direction for a sales team that meets and exceeds customer expectations, develop and execute sales strategies to exceed the team financial (top line sales, margin expectations, and EBIT) and non-financial goals.  The Sales Manager is charged with assembling and leading a team to identify and capitalizing on opportunities, retaining and servicing existing customers, and supporting the primary focus of growing our financial success through world class customer service, highly accurate cost estimating and quoting, and superior market knowledge and awareness.  The Sales Manager will work closely with the Wet Utility/Dry Utility Sales Teams, communicating regularly, identifying opportunities, and developing and implementing sales strategies.  The Sales Manager is expected to serve as the leader of the sales team and exemplify professionalism and customer service. The scope of the role and responsibilities are outlined below but are not meant to be all encompassing.


Position Responsibilities


  • A critical role for the Sales Manager is to provide leadership and direction for the team in order for them to succeed, establishing the right team, systems, and processes to support the wet utility segment growth for the business. 
  • Manages a team of Outside Sales, Project Managers and Estimators to support the order fulfillment needs of the wet utility business.
  • Proactively call on general contractors, sub-contractors, and municipal engineers to follow-up on quoted business, establish and build relationships that lead to profitable growth.
  • Implements and manages a system that generates leads through professional sales tactics and networking within the engineering and contractor community.
  • Quickly learns and maintains the basic fundamentals of precast concrete, the capabilities of the local manufacturing facilities, and the characteristics of competitive products.
  • Develops and implements strategic sales plans to accommodate sales goals.
  • Reviews market analyses to determine customer needs, price schedules, and discount rates
  • Responds to customer’s needs in a focused and service-oriented manner, quickly addressing issues to provide world class results, demonstrating knowledge of our customer’s business needs and expectations, effectively applying knowledge and skills to problem solve individual circumstances of the customer.
  • Implements and manages systems that provide complete, accurate quotes that are consistently formatted and provided in a timely manner tailored to the customer’s project needs.
  • Provides market based pricing based upon commercial tools, CRM software, dashboards, real market feedback, and industry knowledge
  • Reviews sales team quotes in excess of $50k and in excess of $250k with General Manager to ensure pricing consistency and strategic market approach.
  • Effectively and efficiently manages customer’s projects, including development and communication of schedules for submittals, production, and delivery
  • Provides professional and timely communication with internal departments to ensure seamless customer service (engineering, purchasing, production, delivery, accounting).
  • Routinely visits customers’ offices and jobsites to strengthen relationships, gather market information, learn of new opportunities, and show Oldcastle’s value as a business partner.
  • Develop and maintain a strong base of product knowledge and competitive landscape.
  • Maintains a positive attitude and appropriate professional appearance.
  • Other duties as necessary.




  • 3 – 5 years sale management experience in industrial or construction environment.
  • Previous commercial/residential drainage & sanitary sales experience preferred
  • 4-year degree or equivalent industry experience preferred
  • Formal training in consultative and solutions selling




  • Demonstrated ability to prepare accurate, timely quotes/bids that meet business and customer expectations for format, detail and compliance.
  • Demonstrated ability to meet with customers, review prepared bids, negotiate and close deals.
  • Demonstrated self-starter with excellent time management and organizational skills.
  • Strong business and financial acumen that translate to sound, profitable sales and business decisions.
  • Excellent communication skills and ability to relate across multiple levels with contractors, engineers, subs and government officials.
  • Ability to define, delegate and follow-up on assigned tasks.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office programs (Word, Excel, Outlook) and CRM software.
