Position Overview 

Operate & maintain equipment involved in the loading and unloading of cement from silos, rail cars, ships, barges, or trucks. May also operate a trackmobile, front-end loader and light industrial equipment

Key Responsibilities (Essential Duties and Functions)

  • Position reports to the Terminal Manager.
  • Receive, position and unload hopper rail cars or trucks according to accepted, unloading, practices. Report operating and maintenance problems to the Terminal Manager.
  • Load customer trucks and common carriers in a timely and efficient manner recognizing the CRH Canada policy on load limit weights and clean air standards.
  • Prepare bills of lading and maintain inventory records.
  • Perform emergency, periodic and preventive maintenance on all equipment according to the terminal maintenance program.
  • Recommend cost saving and work simplification ideas.
  • Maintain the terminal in a clean, neat and tidy condition, which properly reflects the CRH image.
  • Support company safety program through the use of safety equipment and the observance of safe work methods.
  • Handle special assignments or projects as needed.
  • Be able to handle terminal alone for short periods of time.  Shift hours demand careful and responsible work habits for longer periods of time.


Education/Experience - Preferred

  • Background in air compressors, pneumatic pumps, and conveying systems; basic knowledge of electrical and welding a plus.
  • Work experience in an industrial setting.
  • Trade school courses; a plus.

Knowledge/Skills Required

  • Basic math aptitude to handle paperwork.
  • Driver's license, phone, High School Diploma or G.E.D.
  • Minimum one year work experience in equipment maintenance within an industrial setting.
  • Good verbal skills for dealing with truckers, customers, and other employees.
  • Appropriate business conducts and phone manners, a must. Customer oriented individual.

  • The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job.
  • Working outdoors and varied temperatures and weather conditions

  • Working indoors in varied conditions (ie. hot noisy, dusty)

  • Effortless mobility through all areas of the Packhouse

  • Ability to climb stairs several times a day as required

  • Ability to lift and carry 66-74 lb cement bags daily (for bag weights)

  • Working at heights

  • Working in confined space

Work Environment

  • This position is based across the plant
