Position Overview

 

  • Responsible for providing both operational and engineering support to management. The focus will be at the underground sites but could also include some work at the surface sites.
  • Operational responsibilities include assisting in the management of day to day underground operations and insuring that it takes place in a safe and efficient manner.
  • Engineering support responsibilities include assisting in mine design, ventilation, ground control, surveying, reserve evaluation and mine modeling for permitting and mine planning purposes.

 

Key Responsibilities (Essential Duties and Functions)

 

The duties and responsibilities include but are not limited to:

  • Assists in setting production and cost goals and monitoring the progress of these goals
  • Assists in both safety and production training of new employees
  • Assists in setting the daily production schedule at the underground sites
  • Assists in ordering parts and supplies as necessary at the underground sites
  • Assists in troubleshooting down equipment and the scheduling of repairs
  • Assists in new underground employee interviews
  • Performs periodic ventilation surveys in the mine.
  • Prepares regular mines maps and assists in ventilation plan submittals for MSHA.
  • Assists in MSHA submittal requests and during MSHA regular inspections
  • Prepares ATF and State Fire Marshal permit submittals
  • Assists in underground surveys and spad installation
  • Assists in short and long-term mine plan submittals
  • Assists with compliance issues (MSHA)

  • Strict adherence to Shelly Company policies and procedures as outlined in the Company Book of Policies.
  • Willingness to work in a team environment and assist co-workers or supervisors with other duties as required
  • Timely and regular attendance is an expectation of performance for all Shelly Company employees. Employees will be held accountable for adhering to their workplace schedule.

 

Qualifications

 

To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily.

 

Education and Experience

 

  • Bachelor’s degree in Mine Engineering, Geology or equivalent from a four-year college or technical school; two or more year’s related experience preferred.
  • Experience with land surveying instruments, CAD, mine planning software preferred.
  • Proficient with Windows, Excel, Word, and PowerPoint.

 

Language Skills

 

  • Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals. 
  • Ability to write routine reports and correspondence. 
  • Ability to speak effectively to customers or employees of organization.

 

Mathematical Skills

 

  • Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals.
  • Ability to compute rate, ratio, and percent and to draw and interpret bar graphs.

 

Reasoning Ability

 

  • Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists. 
  • Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.

Work Environment

 

  • While performing the duties of this job, the employee regularly works near moving mechanical parts and in outside weather conditions and is regularly exposed to wet, humid condition airborne particles, and extreme heat or cold. 
  • The employee is occasionally exposed to vibration.
  • The noise level in the work environment is usually loud and may require protective equipment.
  • Continuous: moving equipment, working with others
  • Frequently: hot weather, cold weather, wet weather, exposed to noise
  • Occasionally: exposed to high heat
