Job Summary


Oldcastle BuildingEnvelope is seeking a Structural/Thermal Engineer for our Concord, ON facility.  The ideal candidate will be armed with the expertise to design systems and will have a fundamental understanding of civil and/or mechanical engineering principles.  The successful incumbent will be responsible for working with architectural glass at all stages of product life from research and development to manufacturing with the goal of enhancing thermal insulation performance of the building envelope and curtain wall.


Essential Duties and Responsibilities


  • Provide technical leadership and/or project management of custom curtain wall and building envelope projects.
  • Collaborate with Research and Development and Plant Engineering to develop and lead production trials of new products, processes, and technology to improve curtain wall performance.
  • Technical analyses of processes and application of results to improve processes and meeting customer requirements.
  • Design and implementation of process experiments.
  • Utilization of statistics and application of tools for process control and management.
  • Strong interpersonal skills to thrive in a highly collaborative environment.
  • Ability to work independently and as a team.
  • Strong ability to prioritize and balance multiple projects at any given time.
  • Flexibility for travel as needed.



  • Bachelor’s Degree in Civil Engineering or Mechanical Engineering.
  • Knowledge in Finite Element Analysis.
  • Experience in material transformation, thermal analysis is an asset.
  • Ability to apply scientific and engineering principles to solve complex problems.
  • Strong ability to analyze and process data.
  • To be on the forefront of curtain wall industry trends.
  • Development, Engineering or Manufacturing experience, preferably in the glass industry.
  • Strong understanding of glass composition.
  • Experience with AutoCAD and Microsoft Office.
  • Knowledge of Therm 7.4 and Windows 7.4 is an asset.
  • Working knowledge of Canadian and American Building Standard Codes.
  • Ability to read blueprints.
