Job Summary


Planning, developing, and implementing a comprehensive transportation safety management system within the company.  Conducting training for, and mentoring, plant transportation safety representatives.  Ensure compliance with all transportation safety requirements through the comprehensive management system, and through periodic audits of plant systems.


Essential Duties and Responsibilities


  • Leading all aspect of the fleet safety process and procedures for the company.  
  •  Ensure company maintains compliance with Department of Transportation (DOT) regulations through training and auditing activities.
  •  Monitor and audit each location for compliance, company policies, drug/alcohol program, safety related activities and driver training.
  •  Point of contact for vehicle leasing companies.
  • Oversee inventory of transportation assets.  
  • Coach fleet managers/ supervisors and drivers on DOT regulations, develop and maintain a vehicular incident investigation program. 
  • Manage driver compliance programs including driver qualification, drug/alcohol, driver training, hours of service. 
  • Provide guidance and support of driver recruiting & orientation of driver candidates. 
  • Direct oversight of company’s fleet maintenance program, and onboard logging devices program. 
  • Conduct orientations for new plant transportation safety representatives.


Skills, Knowledge and Ability Requirements


  • Minimum of seven (7) years of experience managing transportation safety management systems.
  • Proven track record of success in managing these systems.
  • Extremely knowledgeable in the Department of Transportation regulations.
  • Knowledgeable in OSHA regulations.
  • Computer literate and knowledgeable in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
  • Bachelor of Science Degree preferred.
  • Commercial Drivers’ License preferred


Work Environment


  • Must be able to travel up to 65% of time.
  • Work in variety of environmental conditions at plants.
  • Office work in professional office environment
  • Wear required PPE as determined by company and plant requirements.
  • Follow established safety rules as determined by company and plant.
