Job Summary


The Lean/Quality Manager is responsible for managing the operations continuous improvement programs, including; Quality Management, Process Improvement, LEAN activities/projects, and other operational excellence.  Reports to the Director of Continuous Improvement.  Works within and supports the operation’s leadership team (plant, sales, maintenance, finance, and human resources) to meet/exceed the operations objectives. Communicates as needed with vendors, customers, other group operations, and industry organizations (i.e. IGCC, SGCC). 


Essential Duties and Responsibilities


Manages the Continuous Improvement effort within the leadership team and with employee-based process teams to achieve zero harm, improve quality, reduce waste, and maximize process performance. Implements and manages the OBE Quality Management System (QMS), Continuous Improvement (CI), and Lean projects/activities to drive process & product improvements.


  • Direct and implement project administration and management
  • Oversee fundamental programs such as Process Control, Document Control, and Training
  • Develop control plans, train employees to properly execute & record quality testing, and validate results to assure compliance with industry standards and/or specific project specification requirements
  • Direct, delegate, & coach direct reports and all plant employees as needed
  • Initiate and manage investigations into process issues and quality (internal & external) issues to identify root causes, develop corrective actions, and implement solutions
  • Execute tracking action plans, analyze programs and oversee progress
  • Identify areas of process improvement and execute specific lean production projects
  • Conduct KanBan, constraint management, one-piece flow production, workplace organization and setup reduction
  • Conduct cost and benefit analysis
  • Establish goals, objectives at the department level to support plant and company goals
  • Coordinate follow-up meetings for every event to ensure work is completed and improvements are sustained
  • Establish and conduct monthly progress reviews with management team
  • Communicate all substantive issues, corrective actions, and process performance improvements to similar OBE operations
  • Resolve quality issues with vendors, customers, and other OBE operations (inter-company)
  • Work on OBE teams to support projects in conjunction with group or corporate initiatives
  • Support external supplier, third party certification, and OBE internal audits
  • Ensure constant application of company procedures and policies
  • Six Sigma Black Belt Preferred
