The Logistics Manager is responsible for leading the transportation and logistics departments for the Central Region of Oldcastle Infrastructure. This position will be responsible for fleet management, carrier relationship management/procurement, and logistics activities including, scheduling, routing and truck utilization. As a key member of the regional team, the incumbent will work with supply chain, operational and business leaders to implement clear and cohesive strategies/processes which result in year over year improvements in the cost and service of our logistics network.

 

Key Responsibilities (Essential Duties and Functions)

 

  • Lead the logistics efforts for the Central Region
  • Directly responsible for reducing transportation costs throughout the Central Region
  • Define and implement standardized logistics and transportation processes
  • Drive continuous improvement by managing key performance indicators
  • Responsible for the improving customer service experience and managing service level metrics
  • Negotiate, contract and manage carrier agreements for inbound and outbound materials and products
  • Research and review new and existing transportation vendors; implement programs to reduce, replace and improve upon transportation costs
  • Oversee maintenance on all company owned equipment. Make recommendations for future Capex purchases
  • Company contact for insurance claims when the claims involve company drivers or trucks leased by the company 
  • Manage the company vehicle lease program (tractors, trailers, pick-up trucks and automobiles) including but not limited to: negotiating all lease contracts, vehicle recommendations and selection, writing vehicle specifications for bid, and ordering/receiving/deploying equipment
  • Implement transportation related company policy and programs and keep current on government rules and regulations, reporting when necessary to management team

 

Supervisory Responsibilities 

 

  • Manage a team of 4-5 schedulers/dispatchers
  • Coach/teach team members on strategic initiatives within transportation and supply chain

  
Qualifications

 

  • Bachelor’s degree in business, supply chain, logistics or related field
  • Direct experience in supply chain, transportation/logistics field; including experience utilizing transportation management software systems and network design
  • Experience establishing business processes and managing performance

 

Knowledge/Skill Requirements

 

  • Proven record of logistics cost management across the supply chain
  • Strong leadership skills with the ability to maintain a wide range of multi-site relationships at all levels of the organization and the ability to effectively define and manage change
  • Demonstrated ability to get positive results through influence, persuasion, leadership, presentations, training, and group facilitation skills
  • Strong negotiating skills, analytical and problem-solving ability
  • Ability to plan and achieve long-term goals
  • Team player personality that works well with management, customer service, sales and dispatch
  • Excellent customer service skills
  • Ability to travel up to 50%
