Area Manager (Maine-North):  We are seeking a safety minded, qualified, motivated candidate to oversee the Construction division for all points in Maine north of our Augusta market area.  The selected individual will be responsible for directly managing construction bid to build activities as well as working closely with our customers and other Line of Business Managers (LOB) to ensure that we execute our business strategy.  The Area Manager is responsible for promoting and providing a safe work place for employees, developing employees for future roles, and helping to promote customer and community relations.  The Area Manager will take the lead in ensuring all lines of business are working together in order to meet the overarching company goal of maximizing material sales and overall profitability.  This position will be based in Fairfield, Maine.  Classification:  Year round monthly salary.

Requirements:

  • Must be committed to providing and promoting a safe work environment.
  • Bachelor’s degree in Civil or Construction Engineering plus five to seven years of industry experience; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Ability to read and interpret documents and plans, safety rules, contracts, operating and maintenance instructions.
  • Must have strong interpersonal and communication skills, a proven track record of successful job and team management from start to finish; must have the ability to cultivate valuable customer/employee relationships; successfully manage multiple jobs simultaneously; and have a keen business sense.
  • Strong communication skills both written and verbal, computer skills and knowledge of state DOT regulations and OSHA are a must.
  • Must have the demonstrated ability to:
    • Maintain strong customer, supplier, and community relationships.
    • Effectively manage and motivate a workforce.
    • Resolve conflict.
    • Display a courteous and professional attitude when dealing with co-workers and the public.
    • Communicate effectively with entire workforce, customers, and community officials.
    • Obtain optimum production in a safe environment.
    • Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of variables in situations.
  • Knowledgeable of earthwork, paving, reclamation and milling operations, best practices, and key performance indicators.
  • Ability to dissect project plans and specifications to determine project critical path, productivity targets, labor, equipment, material and trucking cost estimates.
  • Knowledge of Construction Market – municipal market matrix, competitor backlog and capacity, competitor bonding capacity, key paving customer accounts.                                                                                              
  • Willingness to participate in Industry Trade Associations.
  • Knowledge of OSHA, MUTCD, and DOT rules and regulations.
  • Proficient computer skills with web based applications and MS Office products.
  • Ability to multi-task and manage changing priorities.
  • Extended hours with possible night and/or weekend work as well as overnights.
  • The willingness to travel to other New England North locations when needed.
  • A valid driver’s license.
