Position Overview

 

Coordinates activities of the Central Lab Quality Control Department with a primary objective of delivering a high quality, uniform product that is consistent and that meets the specifications and expectations of our suppliers and customers.

 

Key Responsibilities (Essential Duties and Functions)

 

  • Ensure employees are working and promoting safety at all times through daily, weekly and monthly communications, on the job training and by taking a leadership role and participating in a safety culture.
  • Ensure all HMA roadways, drives, approaches and shoulders are being tested and reported utilizing the most current and appropriate standards, specifications and internal procedures
  • Evaluate the physical attributes and properties of HMA being delivered to projects from our plants and provide quick results and feedback as required
  • Ensure all density technicians are aware of and comply with company, government and customer policies, procedures and regulations including housekeeping, behavioral expectations, safety and environmental stewardship
  • Ensure all density technicians are trained and are continuously updated on any changes to specifications and maintaining certifications required by MDOT, Local Agencies and FAA
  • Attend QC managers meeting and scheduling meetings
  • Attend pre-pave and pre-production meetings as required
  • Schedule and manage daily task and be prepared to provide direction and support in all areas
  • Prioritize all demands for density request and communicate with QC team, project managers and foreman the status of available technicians
  • Analyze all test data, accurately complete and submit all density forms update shared drive with all test data, communicate any failing areas immediately to foreman, project manager and QC team
  • Demonstrate a commitment to communicating, improving and adhering to company policies in all work environments and areas

 

Other Responsibilities

 

  • Understand internal and external customer expectations
  • Assist with developing technicians
  • Continuous education of HMA
  • Communicate daily schedule to all technicians
  • Report time on infield using proper phase numbers
  • Knowledge of rolling patterns and trouble-shooting HMA
  • Maintain checks and service maintenance on all equipment utilized for density including gauges, core rigs, generators, lift gates on all fleet vehicles
  • Be available to be on site to assist and support technicians as needed

 

Qualifications

 

  • Three or more years’ experience in the construction industry related to asphalt and civil construction
  • Strong computer skills
  • Strong communication skills and ability to network within the organization
  • Asphalt product knowledge

  • Work will be performed outside on a job site. Physical requirements include lifting buckets that weigh up to 40 pounds, moving a core rig in and out of a truck, sitting, standing, walking, bending, twisting, working with hot material and moving heavy equipment in and out of trucks.

 

Work Environment

 

  • This position will work the majority of time in the field. Work environment will vary depending on job task.
