Position Overview

The Payroll Manager is responsible for ensuring that payroll processing for the region (Arkansas, Oklahoma, Missouri, and Kansas) is done accurately and in a timely manner.  Provides guidance to the payroll department on union and non-union payroll to maintain compliance.  The person in this role is expected to excel in a fast-paced environment while maintaining strict confidentiality and sensitivity.


Key Responsibilities (Essential Duties and Functions)

  • Maintains employee confidence and protects payroll operations by ensuring information remains confidential.
  • Knowledgeable of internal controls and government regulations to ensure compliance.   
  • Effectively coordinates with operations and HR to ensure accurate information for payroll.
  • Ensure timely maintenance of payroll information by collecting, calculating, and entering data.
  • Understands collective bargaining agreements regarding union payroll/fringe benefit requirements.  Ensures requirements are met.
  • Review payroll processes to ensure proper controls and accuracy.
  • Coach and train payroll clerks to meet department standards.
  • Proactively review payroll process to preemptively catch potential errors in processing.
  • Learn time tracking systems to gain full understanding of process from beginning to end.  InField, Trak-It, Time and Attendance, and ViewPoint.
  • Updates payroll records by entering changes in various systems as needed.
  • Create and prepare payroll reports as needed.
  • Resolves payroll discrepancies by collecting and analyzing information.
  • Provides payroll information by answering questions and requests.
  • Maintains payroll operations by following policies and procedures; reporting needed changes.
  • Contributes to team effort by accomplishing related results as needed.
  • Liaison with corporate payroll in Atlanta for wage garnishments, tax adjustments, special processing, etc.
  • Reconciliation of employee benefit cost/IC bonus accruals.
  • Process certified payroll.
  • Process salaried payroll.
  • Special projects as needed.
  • Other duties as assigned by Supervisor.



To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily.



  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or equivalent (highly preferred)
  • 5+ years’ experience in payroll for a large multi-state employer (highly preferred)


Knowledge/Skill Requirements

  • Excellent skills with Microsoft Office and the ability to rapidly learn different software applications.
  • Possess strong basic math knowledge.
  • Proven accuracy and attention to detail.
  • Demonstrated ability to multi-task in a fast-paced environment.
  • Demonstrated ability to work independently with minimal supervision.
  • Demonstrated ability to adjust to changing schedules and projects.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Strong action orientation and drive for results.
  • Strong oral/written communication, presentation and listening skills.
  • The ability to deal with ambiguity and facilitate change.


Work Requirements

  • Payroll experience is required.
  • Must be 18 years in age or older.
  • Must pass pre-employment physical, drug screen and criminal background check.
  • Must possess a valid driver’s license.
  • Regular attendance required to begin work at the designated start time.
  • Strict adherence to safety requirements and procedures as per company policy.
  • Willingness to work in a team environment and assist co-workers or supervisors with other duties as required.
  • Ability to perform all essential job functions with or without reasonable accommodation.
  • Must be willing to travel and work away from home when required.
  • Must be willing to work nights and weekends when necessary.  


Physical Requirements

  • Long periods of sitting and looking at computer screens.
  • Occasionally lift move/carry 10 lbs. unassisted and exert force of pushing/pulling of 10 lbs.
  • Individuals are required to wear personal protective equipment (PPE) in designated operations and production areas as stated by OSHA and/or MSHA.
  • Compliance with all OSHA and/or MSHA regulations


Work Environment

  • Will work in a standard office environment.
