Summary

 

Lead the Production Department to make a quality product while ensuring all safety and environment requirements are met. Perform investigations into problems in the production process. Coordinate activities of the plant production personnel to resolve problems.  Uses independent judgment in performing responsibilities.

 

Supervision Received

 

Works from general policies and objectives.  Refers to supervisor for clarification or interpretation of organizational policy.

 

Supervision Exercised

 

Exercises supervision over production employees who are directly involved in the production process. Included are lower-level management positions as well as union labor positions.

 

Primary Duties & Responsibilities

 

  • Ensures compliance to safety regulations in the production operations process and continually develop a culture that puts safety first.
  • Investigates process problems and proposes solutions and/or alternatives.
  • Ensures that we are good stewards to the community by adhering to all environment requirements.
  • Compiles and maintains accurate operating procedures for all processes.
  • Proposes and provides justification for equipment changes which involve capital expenditures.
  • Closely monitors the activities of the Production Supervisors to keep abreast of department activities and developments.
  • Assist in production budget development and execution.
  • Establishes assigns and communicates job responsibilities and schedules for the shift supervisors and others directly involved in the production process.
  • Monitors and maintains records of training, attendance, absenteeism and vacation for employees with in supervisory responsibilities.
  • Closely monitors kiln-burning, raw mill, and finish mill-grinding operations.
  • Reviews production data and prepares reports as requested by management.
  • Assists production personnel and other plant personnel as needed to resolve problems and ensure satisfactory production operations.
  • Assists plant management, when requested, in resolving union problems and grievances.
  • Requests and supervises repairs/preventative maintenance performed on the mills, kilns and other machinery used in production operations.
  • Provides information on an ongoing basis to the Production Manager regarding the status of current operations and manpower.
  • Monitors and controls inventories for raw materials, finished products and kiln refractory.
  • Performs other job-related duties as needed to meet production schedules and quality standards.
  • Performs shift foreman duties on a relief or backup basis.

 

Knowledge/Skills/Abilities

 

  • Extensive knowledge of production operations involved in the cement manufacturing process including kiln burning techniques and processes, mill grinding, process control, inventory estimation using geometric calculations and machines utilizing the production process. 
  • Knowledge of air permit regulations and safety requirements.
  • Skills needed in decision making, communication, problems solving, and providing supervision. Working knowledge of personal computers and computer programming. 
  • Possesses good decision making, planning, supervisory and communication skills.  Ability to record data and generate reports using computer software programs.
  • Work requires strenuous physical exertion such as climbing tall ladders, crouching or crawling into restrictive areas, working at elevated heights and working in extreme temperatures.
