Summary

 

Automation Engineer uses technology to oversee, manage and improve the manufacturing process across Meadow Burke and Thermomass covering 5 plants and multiple service centers. The aim of this position is to streamline the manufacturing process to make it as efficient as possible while still maintaining product quality and adhering to internal protocols and external regulations.

 

Job Responsibilities

 

  • Lead and coordinate the automation effort across mutiple plants across a $100M+ business unit
  • Work with the Team to help specify, purchase, and install equipment
  • Responsible to assist with specifying corporate standard equipment. 
  • Work with the plants to identify capital improvement opportunities and develop justification
  • Assist Manufacturing Engineers in developing cost estimates for automation and controls necessary for new equipment, work cells, and workstations
  • Oversee and manage projects related to the automation process
  • Communicate project status to team members and executive management
  • Design new automation equipment or processes
  • Test and simulate proposed processes or equipment to ensure they function as desired
  • Work with manufacturing teams to develop appropriate RFQ packages and MRO components to standardize hardware (robots, PLC’s, network protocols, sensors, etc…) and minimize MRO spend. 
  • Program new automated components to the manufacturing process
  • Develop and maintain clear and accurate documentation of automation equipment or processes
  • Train other team members, as necessary
  • Troubleshoot automated processes or equipment as needed when errors occur
  • Develop network of vendors and solution providers to partner with in projects as well as educating the team in up and coming technologies and applications
  • Other duties as assigned

 

Job Requirements

 

  • Bachelor’s degree in Electrical or Mechanical Engineering field required.
  • Experience within mechatronic design and product development
  • Experience with SolidWorks or other CAD software preferred
  • Familiar with lean principles and Six Sigma
  • Excellent written and communication skills
  • Ability to problem solve, and think outside of the box to find effective solutions
  • Ability to read and understand engineering drawings & procedural documentation
  • Organizational skills; prioritize workload, accurately documenting
