Position Overview

 

This is a skilled position as a Construction Storm Water Specialist. The ideal candidate will be someone who enjoys working outdoors, is dependable, has good communication and negotiation skills and can work with little supervision. The necessary training that will be required to cover construction storm water management and erosion control inspections will be provided. This position requires communication with various local, state and federal regulatory agencies and will offer employees challenges and opportunities for future success.

This position will help coordinate the construction of temporary and permanent erosion control efforts to assure economical, effective, and continuous erosion and sediment control throughout the construction permit period.

Key Responsibilities (Essential Duties and Functions)

 

  • Colorado Discharge Permit System Stormwater Construction Permit (CDPS-SCP) site evaluations, which entail weekly scheduled and unscheduled construction site inspections to verify that sediment and erosion control practices are being utilized in compliance with the general permit requirements
  • An understanding of the NPDES federally mandated stormwater permit
  • Ability to quickly assess problems and act to positively resolve issues and coordinate efforts to the satisfaction of the owners/public agencies
  • Government and private agency interaction and relationship development
  • Updating, analyzing and researching solutions to project concerns
  • Ongoing communication between team members for quality purposes
  • Ability to communicate across departments and divisions to successfully synchronize schedules, projects, and reporting procedures
  • Preparation of Stormwater Management Plan, required reports and documentation
  • Strong organizational and computer skills
  • Good verbal and written communication skills
  • Continued focus on improvement and learning of technical knowledge in the field
  • Self-motivated and idea centered

Education/Experience

  • AA, BS/BA or technical equivalent is preferred
  • Experience in a construction or environmental position is a plus

 

Work Requirements

  • Ability to read and comprehend simple instructions, short correspondence, and memos.  Ability to write simple correspondence. 
  • Ability to add, subtract, multiple and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals.  Ability to compute, rate, ration, percent, land to draw and interpret bar graphs.
  • Ability to effectively present information in one on one and small group situations to customers, clients, and other employees of the organization
  • Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out detailed, but uninvolved written or oral instruction.
  • Ability to work well with others in a group or one on one setting.
  • To perform this job successfully, an individual should be able to type and use keyboards accurately and have knowledge of Database software. 
  • May be subject to drug testing, medical exams and physical agilities testing.

 

 

Knowledge/Skill Requirements

  • Knowledge of storm water management is a plus 
  • Knowledge of general construction is preferred.
  • Must have a current and valid driver’s license with a good driving record.
