Job Summary
 

Oldcastle Lawn and Garden is looking for a candidate with an entrepreneurial spirit to oversee all aspects of a fast paced lawn & garden products manufacturing facility. Daily duties include monitoring daily key point measures, safety, production flow and material costs.  In this role, the Assistant Plant Manager will have responsibility and accountability for bottom line results.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

 

  • Implementing process improvement methods and ensuring non-stop production in an effective, safe and profitable manner.
  • Assist with inventory management, labor and cost controls.
  • Providing leadership to staff, assessing performance, and directing all operational activities to ensure product quality and consistency.
  • Ensuring workplace safety through implementation, adherence and enforcement of company business standards, as well as safety and development programs.
  • Assist with maintaining a quality control program to ensure that we produce quality products that meet or exceed customer expectations
  • Implement measures to improve production methods and equipment performance
  • Develop or revise standard operational working practices
  • Coach, train, mentor employees on the safe and efficient method of operating plant equipment
  • Assist with physical inventory counts
  • Understand the operations of the plant and equipment
  • Prepare and maintain appropriate production records by assisting Plant Manager with production entry when necessary
  • Must be available to work 10-12 hour days, six to seven days a week, especially in season
  • Flash arc (must wear specific clothing for safety reasons with the high voltage of electricity) 24-12DC; 110-480AC – must be able to work with and around
  • Must be able to work in a high stress environment and fast-paced environment at all times
  • Must be able to assist/help with any maintenance requirements in the facility and scheduling of predictive maintenance activities

 

Requirements / Education / Experience

 

  • 2 plus years manufacturing management experience.
  • Must have excellent analytical, problem solving and communication skills.
  • Must have intermediate to advanced MS Office skills

 

Preferences

 

  • Bachelor’s degree preferred
  • 2 or 4 year degree, and/or equivalent combination(s) of education, industry experience and training.
  • Experience in wood/pulp/mulch manufacturing preferred
  • Experience with heavy equipment
