Summary

Manage three regional dispatch units by coordinating the daily activities including planning, implementing and monitoring procedures for the efficient and effective delivery of construction products from our quarries and plants to jobsites.

 

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Responsible for own personal safety at all times as well as maintain the highest standard of safety and quality in all aspects of the job
  • Actively participate in the Pennsy Safety Process, including supporting safety incentives, acting immediately when observing unsafe acts, and promoting participation in tool box talks and PSP teams
  • Knowledge of CDL and DOT requirements, as well as full understanding of HOS rules
  • Adhere to any and all state and federal regulations, if applicable, as set forth by the US Department of Transportation (DOT), Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA), Mine Safety and Health Administration (MSHA), or any other regulatory agency
  • Properly follow all company policies and procedures for a safe working environment and report any problems to the director of transportation, safety director or HR
  • Research and manage systems to reduce cost, enhance customer service and maximize profitability
  • Identify the most efficient truck routing and schedule effectiveness by plant and product production and availability
  • Maintain and quote haul rates to sales and construction
  • Ensure all direct reports are maintaining information appropriate for Salesforce cases
  • Encourage sound ordering practices with customers, promote improved service, and accommodate the customers’ requests by coaching CSRs to negotiate acceptable delivery times without losing the order
  • Listen to dispatch calls to monitor and coach CSRs to provide quality customer service and to resolve conflict when issues arise
  • Collaborate with other managers and staff members to formulate and implement policies, procedures, goals and objectives
  • Direct investigations to verify and resolve customer or dispatcher complaints/issues
  • Direct activities related to dispatching routing or tracking transportation vehicles
  • Assure and promote the use of the transportation communications/GPS system technologies (trackit)
  • Find innovative ways (using software and IT resources) to improve transportation services and processes
  • Build a strong customer confidence in the department and establish good business working relationships with both internal and external customers
  • Work in close cooperation with all departments
  • Excellent phone skills
  • Ability to work flexible hours in a face paced environment
  • Be available as a resource after hours for customer or plant after hour contact, or for schedule changes.
  • Must be detail oriented and thorough in all job responsibilities
  • Regular and predictable attendance at assigned times is required
  • Night work and weekend shifts when necessary

 

Supervisory Responsibilities

  • Willingness to develop subordinates’ technical and leadership skills and make recommendations for new job opportunities when appropriate
  • Effective management of employee performance through coaching, feedback (written and verbal), rewards, and discipline when necessary
  • Responsible for direct reports time off, performance reviews, disciplinary actions (hiring or firing), training empowerment and setting expectations that are in line with the company goals
  • Appraising performance, including annual evaluations and new employee 60-day evaluations
  • Addressing complaints and resolving problems in a timely manner
  • Lead by example
  • Ability to get work done through others using effective delegation, scheduling, and time management practices

  • Display a professional and courteous attitude to co-workers, supervisors, customers, and the general public at all times
  • Report to the assigned job site ready to begin work at the designated start time

Qualifications

  • Must pass a drug screen and criminal background check.
  • Able to work independently with attention to detail.
  • Able to work various times during day, night or weekend hours, at various locations (travel may be required for this position).

 

Education and/or Experience

  • High school Diploma or equivalent.
  • BS in Supply Chain and/or Logistics Management
  • 2-3 years’ experience in a transportation environment
  • 3-5 years in a management role preferred

The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.
