 Job Summary

 

We are seeking a full-time Department Supervisor at our location in Indianapolis, IN in the Park 100 area.  We are looking for hard workers who want to grow and develop with us. The Department Supervisor reports to the Plant Manager and is responsible for supervising and training manufacturing personnel in a manner consistent with Company policies and procedures. Other Supervisor responsibilities include planning and managing the day to day allocation of resources (equipment, people, materials, and systems) in order to efficiently, safely, and cost-effectively achieve performance targets. The Department Supervisor also implements and ensures adherence to company policies and procedures. This position may require daily or weekend overtime as dictated by the production schedule.

 

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

 

  • Supervise personnel and coordinate production work-flow
  • Ensure all production schedules are completed at the end of the shift and that company quality standards are met each day
  • Track absenteeism and review and approve employees’ time worked in timekeeping system
  • Ensure that all personnel, prior to the start of the shift, are wearing the correct safety equipment and that safety awareness is maintained throughout the shift
  • Ensure that all safety and incident reporting procedures are followed as well as all individuals are properly trained and their job functions are being performed correctly
  • Report to maintenance and/or safety personnel any safety hazards or equipment malfunctions and/or maintenance
  • Perform performance evaluations for direct reports
  • Performance improvement strategies such as coaching, training, and developing employees are also expected
  • Ensure complete compliance with prescribed QMS and 5S processes
  • Suggest and/or initiate personnel actions such as promotions, hires, transfers, pay adjustments, and terminations and ensure compliance with the Company’s affirmative action policy, practices, and procedures
  • Investigate and resolve employee relation issues/conflicts
  • Complete verbal and written disciplinary warnings/counseling in accordance with the company’s policy and procedures
  • Regular and predictable attendance, safely perform tasks, and adherence to all safety policies and procedures are essential functions of your job
  • All other duties as assigned by Plant Manager and/or General Manager

 

Requirements

 

To be considered for a Production Supervisor position, the following conditions must be met:

 

  • Minimum 4 years manufacturing supervisory experience
  • Able to plan, allocate resources, manage production, and coordinate people and equipment
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills
  • Problem analysis resolution
  • Able to read and perform basic mathematical calculations as well as read and write measurements in numbers, fractions, and decimals at a high school education or equivalent level
  • Able to read and properly utilize a tape measure

 

Preferences

 

  • Glass manufacturing experience
  • Working knowledge of  AS400
  • Project management abilities and a solid understanding of workflow processes
  • Demonstrated management and planning skill
  • Demonstrated ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously, set priorities, identify and address problems, meet deadlines, and stay within budget
  • Strong interpersonal skills; a team player and independent worker
  • Demonstrated effective verbal and written communication skills

 

Physical Requirements

 

 The following physical activities may be required for the position:

 

  • Ability to lift up to 75lbs on a regular basis
  • Ability to grasp and squeeze small parts and large items like glass
  • Ability to stand on concrete for up to 10-12 hours per day
  • Ability to wear PPE including, but not limited to: protective sweater, hard hat, steel toe boots with metatarsal guards, safety glasses, and earplugs
  • Ability to work in varied temperatures consistent with same climate conditions of the region (Heat, humidity, etc.)

 

Equipment

 

  • Dolly, crane, glass cups, tape measure, calculator, pallet jack, caliper, and computer

 

Safety

 

  • Hazards - Exposure to Chemicals/Fumes, Pinch Points, Exposure to Excessive Noise, Strain/Sprain, Laceration/Puncture, Particulate Exposure, Contusion, Temperature Extremes, Slipping, Burns, Shock, Loss of Limbs
  • Controls - Personal Protective Equipment, Safety Training, Written Procedures
  • Safety Equipment – Hardhat, back belt, safety glasses, steel toe shoes/boots, cut resistant gloves, cut resistant outerwear, other equipment as dictated by the specific department

 

Work Environment

 

  • Noise levels in the work environment can be moderate to high
  • The plant facility is subject to the same general climate conditions of the region (heat, cold, humidity, etc.)
  • Chemicals, dust, pollen and other typical airborne particulate matter are present in the atmosphere of the production floor and may create some odors in the plant. The Company, in an effort to provide its employees with a safe and healthy working environment, limits exposure to chemicals through written procedures, engineering controls, and PPE
  • While some chemical may pose health risks if not properly used, employees are trained on the proper safety equipment and procedures for handling chemicals
  • While the chemical exposure and odors are under acceptable levels set by OSHA and the WCB, they nevertheless, can be smelled and are handled according to the company’s hazardous communication program
