Mining Engineers monitor, gather, analyze and communicate operations data to assist management with new and existing mine sites to minimize risk and optimize efficient productivity and asset yield. This position is responsible for stockpile surveying and mine planning. Uses independent judgement to analyze and solve problems and determine proper procedures.  Works under general supervision with specified standard practices and objectives. 


Primary Duties & Responsibilities


  • Prepares reports as requested by plant management regarding the daily operations of the quarry
  • Establish daily production KPI’s for the mine team
  • Assists in laying out and directing mine construction operations, such as location and development of ramps and positioning of mining area, access roads etc.
  • Assists in analyzing throughput costs, analyzing plant flow, and determining cycle time opportunities in the load/haul fleet.
  • Assists in analyzing and determining labor requirements, equipment needs, and operational costs for annual budget preparation and reporting.
  • Develop block model of mining operation; including final pit design and ore quality.
    • Design and develop mines and determine the best way to extract metal or minerals to get the most out of deposits, and to extract as much out of the mine whilst maintaining strict safety and environmental issues at hand, for the least amount of money
  • Technical support for the blasting program
  • Training of staff
  • Liaising with and advising managerial and technical staff
  • Management of current mine claims and possible future claims
  • Mine reclamation plan and bonding
  • Collaborates and conducts with others geographical exploration by reviewing maps and drilling logs to determine location, size, accessibility and estimated volumes of deposits.
  • Assists in determining both short term and long-range planning designs and data to determine proof of financial justification.
  • Will work with the team to ensure company compliance with mandated safety and environmental policies on all mining/material production practices.
  • Will work with company management and State and Federal agencies to ensure compliance with all applicable laws and regulations.
  • Assist Environmental Engineer in performing, documenting, scheduling environmental inspections as well as quarterly outfall water sampling
  • Ability to detect safety hazards and respond accordingly.
  • Adhere to any and all state and federal regulations, if applicable, as set forth by the US Department of Transportation (DOT), Mine Safety and Health Administration (MSHA), or any other regulatory agency.
  • Ensures compliance to safety standards and regulations by participating in safety meetings and work area inspections
  • Strategically plans short- and long-term goals for quarry operations to meet the anticipated production levels
  • Maintains awareness of current industry trends and practices by reading trade journals and industry magazines
  • Assists with the preparation of annual budgets and specifications on purchased equipment. Coordinates purchased material with plant needs.
  • Maintains the mining plan and ensures it is followed


Required Minimum Qualifications


  • Familiar with MSHA/OSHA regulations, safe work practices and hazard recognition
  • Familiar with basic air, water and waste regulations
  • Experience with establishing a drilling and sampling program for production and long-term mining are a plus
  • Knowledge of departmental budgeting and forecasting
  • Knowledge of workplace rules and regulations enforcement
  • Ability to interpret geological and chemical data for development of a mining plan
  • Familiar with quarry processing equipment such as crushers, belt conveyors, dust collectors etc. along with an understanding of the mechanical and electrical principals to safely operate that equipment
  • Familiar with mobile fleet operating practices and maintenance on front end loaders, haul trucks, bulldozers, graders, water trucks, etc.
  • Familiar with surveying principles and practices
  • Work requires walking over rough, uneven and rocky surfaces, bending and climbing ladders
  • Proficient in using mine planning software such as Surpac, Autocad, etc.

  • B.S. Degree preferred with an emphasis in Mining, Civil Engineering or Geology. 
  • Other Bachelor Degree with requisite experience in the Mining, Geology or Aggregate production. 




  • Three or more years of working in Mining/Quarrying operations.
  • Managerial and front line supervisory experience is desired.
