Position Overview


The successful candidate will report directly to the Construction Manager.  You will support the organization through project set-up vendor and subcontract management, financial reporting and P&L analysis.  Our core values are safety, quality and integrity in everything we do.  All P.J. Key Responsibilities (Essential Duties and Functions)


  • Manage all financial aspects of the construction department including month end entries. 
  • Analyze all jobs to ensure proper revenue recognition. 
  • Cost analysis of actual costs compared with budgeted figures, variance analysis and explanation.
  • Run and understand cost reports.
  • Support project managers by providing analysis on performance trends. 
  • Ensure that company safety procedures and policies are adhered to by all personnel;
  • Possible supervision and management of others for efficiency and accuracy. 
  • Review contract documents and setup jobs in accounting software ensuring compliance with established SOX controls.
  • Compile job packages for distribution to Project Managers and Superintendents. Scan setup documents to the shared drive.
  • Process periodic jobs billing invoices verifying against posted quantities and checking yields.
  • Billing and tracking liquid asphalt escalation.
  • Reconcile daily crew tonnages.
  • Job reconciliations.
  • Entering change orders.
  • Retainage releases.
  • Prepare annual and job specific subcontracts.
  • Issue subcontractor payments including obtaining lien waivers.
  • Tracking subcontractor COI’s for expirations and updating vendor files to ensure compliance.
  • Assist estimators in bidding process including ordering plans and specifications, saving bid documents to shared drives, RFQ’s from subcontractors, filling out bid paperwork, maintaining bid files, and tracking bid results. Entering information on bids into bid tracking software program before, during and after bidding process.
  • Create purchase orders for construction projects. Verify invoices when received against PO’s and obtain approval for payment.
  • Issue certificates of insurance to project owners.
  • Track tack purchases and usages.
  • Maintenance of state EBO system.
  • Assisting with construction backlog.
  • All other duties as assigned.




To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily.




  • B.A. degree, or equivalent education and/or experience.
  • Previous construction accounting or cost control experience preferred.
  • Previous public bidding experience preferred.
  • Previous experience with Viewpoint or other financial reporting software.


Knowledge/Skill Requirements


  • Developed analytical and problem solving abilities.
  • Ability to read financial reports including P&L, revenue recognition, cost on completion. 
  • Excellent interpersonal skills.
  • Excellent written and verbal skills, strong interpersonal skills and ability to diplomatically handle challenging situations.
  • Self-motivation and ability to work with minimal supervision.
  • Must be able to work in a high stress environment in a team orientated atmosphere. 
  • Priority emphasis and strong time management skills.
  • Ability to speak effectively to customers or employees of organization.
  • Expertise with Microsoft Office Suite, particularly Excel and Word.

  • Ability to interact with sub-contractors, state and local officials, other employees, and different levels of management.
