Supervises assigned truck fleet by performing the following duties.


Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Responsible for own personal safety at all times as well as, maintain the highest standard of safety and quality in all aspects of the job.
  • Properly follow all company policies and procedures for a safe working environment, report any problems to the Driver Supervisor, safety director or Human Resources.
  • Ensure safety management policies are enforced.  Investigate accidents with drivers, along with any safety issues that arise on the job sites.
  • Actively participate in the Pennsy Safety Process, including supporting safety incentives, acting immediately when observing unsafe acts, and promoting participation in tool box talks and PSP teams.
  • Perform (or delegate) emergency roadside repairs such as, installing light bulbs, fuses etc.
  • Review the assigned truck fleet paperwork for accuracy and completeness.
  • Conduct Toolbox talks.
  • Work closely with dispatch and Driver Supervisor to maximize trucking efficiency by notifying dispatcher of trucking issues (over-under trucked)
  • Work closely with Dispatch and Driver Supervisor on documenting and addressing any Internal/External driver behavior issues.
  • Performs weekly (at Random) pre-trip audits and ride alongs.
  • Coaching and following up with employees on the completion of JSA forms.
  • Daily inspection of truck equipment and supplies such as tires, lights, brakes, gas, oil, and water.
  • Strive to obtain optimum production in a safe environment.
  • Night work and weekend shifts when necessary.
  • Knowledge of CDL and DOT requirements, as well as full understanding of HOS rule
  • Adhere to any and all state and federal regulations, if applicable, as set forth by the US Department of Transportation (DOT), Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA), Mine Safety and Health Administration (MSHA), or any other regulatory agency.
  • Drive truck to destination in a safe and efficient manner when necessary.
  • Maintain telephone or radio contact with appropriate supervisor to receive delivery instructions.
  • Assure that load is properly covered with appropriate tarp or canvas prior to leaving loading site.
  • Assist in the management of the facilities as assigned.


Supervisory Responsibilities

  • Assisting in the training process for new and existing drivers.
  • Assist in scheduling, routing, and directing the day's assignment.
  • Assist the appropriate supervisor in the management driver evaluations and infractions.
  • Acting as a liaison between the driver, Dispatcher, and the area shop.
  • Reviewing the assigned truck fleet paperwork and is accountable for accuracy and completeness.

ŸWillingness to develop subordinates’ technical and leadership skills and make recommendations for new job opportunities when appropriate.

ŸEffective management of employee performance through coaching, feedback (written and verbal), rewards, and discipline when necessary.

ŸAppraising performance, including annual evaluations and new employee 60-day evaluations.

ŸAddressing complaints and resolving problems in a timely manner.

ŸLead by example.

ŸAbility to get work done through others using effective delegation, scheduling, and time management practices.


Other requirements

  • Current CDL Class B or better Drivers License and reliable source of transportation.
  • Display a professional and courteous attitude to co-workers, supervisors, customers, and the general public at all times.
  • Report to the assigned job site ready to begin work at the designated start time.
  • Strict adherence to the Pennsy Supply, Inc. Safety Manual.
  • Strict adherence to the Pennsy Supply, Inc. policies and procedures as outlined in the employee handbook.
  • Willingness to work in a team environment and assist co-workers or supervisors with other duties as assigned.


Education and/or Experience

High school Diploma or equivalent. Previous management experience is preferred.
