Position Overview

The Process Engineer has the authority and is fully accountable for the successful execution of the responsibilities listed in this position description in accordance with CRH Canada policies and procedures and as limited by the Manufacturing Optimization Manager.

Key Responsibilities (Essential Duties and Functions)

  • Analyze operations of the Plant and make recommendations for process improvement including Cost/Benefit Analysis
  • Prepare computer reports on the process of operating efficiencies and failure investigation tests
  • Perform tests on operating plant systems to determine the efficiencies of the equipment and audit
  • Develop technical instructions for operating personnel and ensure proper communication for the four shifts
  • Provide assistance to management in maintaining the Plant within safety, environmental and quality performance regulations
  • Perform all Production/Maintenance reporting in SAP
  • Involved with Month End activity reporting
  • Perform ISO Audits
  • Perform inventory measurements
  • Production planning including coordination with Maintenance, Production and Logistics
  • Support on cost optimization activities
  • Coverage of  shift and yard supervisor
  • Support refractory management
  • Develop operational procedures

Health and Safety:

  • Ensure compliance under legislation and Corporate requirements
  • Ensure all supervised employees follow set Health and Safety guidelines
  • Joint Health and Safety Pyramid
  • Incident investigation, Kiln outages, mills, etc.



  • University Degree in Chemical, Electrical or Mechanical Engineering
  • Two to five years experience in a heavy manufacturing industry, preferably the cement industry.

Knowledge/Skills Required

  • Occupational Health and Safety knowledge
  • Proficient computer skills, specifically with applications such as SAP, MS Office, TIS
  • Ability to work in an outdoor environment, with frequent exposure to heat, cold, dust, and noise

The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job.

  • Ability to use standard cement process engineering industry measuring tools & instrumentation, e.g. temperature, pressure, flow

Work Environment

  • Ability and willingness to work in heavy industry environment, e.g. working-at-heights, confined spaces
  • Ability to work in an outdoor environment, with frequent exposure to heat, cold, dust and noise
