Position Available:          Aggregate Quality Control Manager


Location:  Monroe, MI


Reports To:  Vice President of Aggregates


Payroll Category:  Exempt


Payroll Status: Full-time / Salaried




Position will be responsible for managing and directing the Stoneco of Michigan quality control program.  This includes managing the day to day activities of the site QC technicians at all Stoneco locations, developing and maintaining the Stoneco QC program, and acting as a subject matter expert for customers, Stoneco sales staff, and Stoneco operations staff. 


Job Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Manage the day to day activities of all Stoneco QC technicians.  Act as a coach and mentor to them
  • Further develop and maintain the Stoneco quality program – including testing frequency for quantitative and qualitative tests, entering results into the QC database, lab housekeeping, staffing, and equipment needs
  • Maintain all quality control records in the quality control database per Oldcastle and MDOT requirements   
  • Interact and develop relationships with government agencies, 3rd party QC firms, and customers as needed
  • Act as subject matter expert for the operations and sales groups
  • Provide technical support to customers and other end users of Stoneco product
  • Interact with customers, government agencies, and 3rd party testing companies
  • Fully understand aggregate, asphalt, and concrete specifications from MDOT, ODOT, ASTM, AASHTO, and others. 
  • Actively participate in weekly safety meetings (Tool Box Talks)


Education and/or Experience:

  • 5 years’ experience in aggregate, asphalt, or concrete quality control and/or production
  • Bachelor’s degree in Geology, Geological Engineering, Civil Engineering, Mine Engineering, or related discipline
  • Varied experience working with aggregate, asphalt, and concrete end users. 
  • Management experience is preferred but not required


Job Requirements and Skills:

  • Strong computer and math skills
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Strong attention to detail
  • Ability to build interpersonal relationships and resolve conflicts
  • Good analytical and problem solving skills
  • Valid driver’s license and clean driving record
  • The ability to pass a pre-employment drug screen


Physical Demands:

  • This position requires walking, standing, bending, twisting, sitting and lifting
  • Must be able to lift, push, and pull up to 50 lbs without assistance


Safety Demands:

This position requires use of certain specific equipment such as sieve shakers, scales, and ovens.
