Position Overview

The financial analyst is responsible for applying accepted accounting principles and procedures to analyze business operations and financial information, prepare accurate and timely financial reports and statements and ensure appropriate accounting control procedures.

 

Key Responsibilities (Essential Duties and Functions)

  • CapEx – Provide leadership in planning, reporting and analyzing investment activity to facilitate an effective budget, timely approval and spend deployment.
  • Fixed Asset Accounting – Assist in accounting for property, plant and equipment, including recording depreciation expense and performing account reconciliations.
  • Leases – Manage the company’s ongoing adoption of IFRS 16 Leases.
  • Reporting – Prepare, distribute and analyze monthly financial statements and other metric reports to assess accuracy, completeness and compliance with accepted policies and procedures.
  • Planning – Assist in developing the divisional budget and forecasts by improving processes, preparing reports and providing analysis.
  • Analysis – Provide to key stakeholders information and understanding of business operation trends, costs, revenues, financial commitments and obligations.
  • Accounting – Take on necessary month-end and other accounting duties and reconciliations to ensure proper recognition occurs and that controls are followed according to accepted accounting principles.
  • Property taxes - Assist in the preparation and annual filing of personal and real property taxes.
  • Audits – Assists in internal, external and property tax audits
  • Bank reconciliations – Perform monthly reconciliations of depository and payables bank accounts
  • Other duties as assigned.

 

Qualifications

Education and/or Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree (BS) in accounting or finance from a four year college or university and two or more years of related industry or public accounting experience required.

Language Skills

  • Knowledge of the structure and content of the English language including the meaning and spelling of words, rules of composition and grammar.

Mathematical Skills

  • Ability to add, subtract, multiple and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals.  Ability to compute rate, ration, percent, land to draw and interpret bar graphs.  Ability to calculate figures and amounts such as discounts, interest, commissions, proportions, percentages and area.  Ability to apply concepts of basic algebra and geometry.

Reasoning Ability

  • Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form

Computer Skills

  • To perform this job successfully, an individual should have knowledge of accounting software, spreadsheet software and word processing software.
