Position Summary

Work with Safety, Operations and Maintenance departments to provide subject matter expert leadership for new and existing professional drivers and other production employees in order for them to safely perform their responsibilities. Assist with plant inspections and accident investigations as required. This member of the safety team will spend the majority of his/her time in the field at various plant locations, on jobsites, or with professional drivers, and only a small amount of time in an office setting. The break down would work out to be approximately 70/30.


Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Conducts safety and compliance inspections and training on projects, shops, yards and offices.
  • Assists in the development of Job Safety Analyses.
  • Reviews upcoming job specifications for safety concerns, additional safety training, specially required PPE or safety requirements and communicate to plant management.
  • Assist/lead with near-miss, property damage, and injury investigations.
  • Assist/lead in roadside incident investigations.
  • Reviews accidents and proposes solutions and/or conducts additional training for employees involved.
  • Responsible for conducting site reviews, writing audit/review reports, reviewing findings and making recommendations for improvement to front line management.
  • Assists with the development and implementation of preventative actions and solutions to prevent the reoccurrence of accidents.
  • Assists Safety Department in the review and further development of safe work policies and procedures in accordance with applicable Federal and State regulations, including USDOT, OSHA, and MSHA.
  • Work remotely on occasion when traveling to plants and facilities.
  • Maintains a positive and helpful attitude.
  • Assists with the orientation and training of newly hired employees.
  • Assists in plant/site, equipment and PPE inspections.
  • Other job duties as assigned.

Education and/or Experience

  • Occupational safety/health degree or equivalent combinations of technical training and/or industrial related safety and health experience.
  • A background in DOT Commercial Motor Vehicle regulations is highly desired.
  • An acceptable driving record is required.
  • OSHA 10 hour card is required; a 30 hour card is preferred.
  • The ability to present to different size groups and audience types is essential.
  • Experience in the transportation industry and a CDL is a plus.


Language Skills

  • Ability to read and comprehend safety regulations, as well as an ability to clearly communicate safety regulations, policies, and corporate correspondence to all employees.
  • Ability to effectively present information in one-on-one and small group situations to customers, clients, and other employees of the organization.


Reasoning Ability

  • Ability to solve problems, influence and communicate ideas and solutions to effect change in behaviors.
  • Ability to recognize hazardous situations and recommend corrective measures is essential.


Computer skills

  • Proficiency in using Microsoft Office programs with specific experience using PowerPoint, Outlook, and Word. Must be able to create and manage trend tables, gathering of information for statistical information and other safety related tabulated data.
