Position Overview

The HR Generalist position is responsible for facilitating and administering generalist activities to further prepare the knowledge and skills needed to successfully work with the Human Resources functions.  Work with the Human Resources Manager to maximize the utilization of the Human Resources component of the organization.

 

Key Responsibilities (Essential Duties and Functions)

  • Assists Human Resources Manager/Director with salaried exempt, salaried non-exempt and hourly hiring process, including composition of job postings, advertisements and descriptions, screening of applications/resumes, background checks, interviewing of candidates, offer letter preparation.
  • Provide current and prospective employees with information about policies, job duties/responsibilities, compensation, opportunities for promotion and employee benefits.
  • Conduct new hire orientations and onboarding.  Ensures proper paperwork is completed and forwarded to appropriate personnel.  Maintains electronic database of human resources forms.
  • Assists Human Resources Manager with administrative responsibilities and special projects, including compilation of data, data analysis and report preparation/generation.
  • Supports and assists with both the talent management and performance management processes. Provides continual guidance and coaching to management team and other key leadership.
  • Assists Director, Human Resources and Human Resources Manager with required training, including preparation, review and distribution.
  • Assists Director, Human Resources and Human Resources Manager with development and maintenance of corporate policies and procedures, and maintains electronic database.
  • Perform difficult duties, including dealing with understaffing, refereeing disputes, administering disciplinary procedures and offering professional guidance on the same.
  • Processes corporate employee terminations, including entry, calculations and routing of appropriate paperwork.
  • Coordinate and document all claims and reports relating to specific state workforce development and unemployment offices.
  • Serve as a liaison between management and employees by handling questions/concerns, interpreting policies and procedures and assist in resolving work-related problems.
  • Assist Human Resources Manager with labor relations.
  • When applicable, conducts and documents HR related investigations, including, but not limited to, EEO complaints, harassment complaints and general employee issues.
  • Assists with review, revision and update of employee handbook as needed.
  • Maintains professional demeanor in dealing with critical/confidential information; restricts discussion/knowledge of activity to a “need to know” basis.
  • Regular and predictable attendance at assigned times is required.
  • Other duties as may be assigned.

 

Qualifications

To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily.

 

Education/Experience 

  • Bachelor’s degree in Human Resources, Business Administration or related discipline preferred.
  • Three or more years’ experience in Human Resources required. Experience with HR Administration strongly preferred.
  • Experience in a construction environment is preferred.
  • Valid state driver’s license and satisfactory driving record is required.

 

Work Requirements 

  • Must be 18 years in age or older.
  • Must pass a drug screen and criminal background check.
  • Strict adherence to safety requirements and procedures as outlined in the Employee Handbook.
  • Willingness to work in a team environment and assist co-workers or supervisors with other duties as required.
  • Must be willing to travel and work away from home when required.
  • Must be willing to work nights and weekends when necessary.

 

Knowledge/Skill Requirements 

  • Knowledge of human resources policies and procedures.
  • Highly effective oral and written communication skills required. Bilingual (English/Spanish) with excellent written and oral communication skills is preferred.
  • Ability to operate office equipment including, but not limited to: computers, copiers, ten key adding machine, printers, etc.
  • Proficiency of MS Excel and Word applications required.
  • Ability to analyze issues independently.
  • Ability to perform under deadline pressure.
  • Ability to understand and follow complex verbal and written instructions.
  • Ability to meet attendance schedule with dependability and consistency.
  • Ability to maintain the highest level of integrity, professionalism, fairness and confidentiality in all aspects of job performance.

Work Environment 

  • Standard office environment.
  • Tempo is fast-paced with deadlines.
  • The noise level in some areas of the work environment may be moderate.
