Position Overview

The HR Generalist position is responsible for facilitating and administering generalist activities to further prepare the knowledge and skills needed to successfully work with the Human Resources functions.  Work with the Human Resources Director to maximize the utilization of the Human Resources component of the organization.

 

Roles and Responsibilities

  • Assists Human Resources Manager/Director with salaried exempt, salaried non-exempt and hourly hiring process, including composition of job postings, advertisements and descriptions, screening of applications/resumes, background checks, interviewing of candidates, offer letter preparation.
  • Provide professional expertise and support in the design, development and implementation of the talent review process that is required to achieve business goals and results in the creation of an internal bench of top talent.
  • Manage the maintenance and execution of the performance management system, including current job descriptions, standards of performance and performance evaluation instruments.
  • Provide current and prospective employees with information about policies, job duties/responsibilities, compensation, opportunities for promotion and employee benefits.
  • Conducts New Hire Orientation and coordinates onboarding. 
  • Assists Director, Human Resources with required training, including preparation, review and distribution.
  • Assists Director, Human Resources with development and maintenance of corporate policies and procedures, and maintains electronic database.
  • Perform difficult duties, including dealing with understaffing, refereeing disputes, administering disciplinary procedures and offering professional guidance on the same.
  • Processes corporate employee terminations, including entry, calculations and routing of appropriate paperwork.
  • Coordinate and document all claims and reports relating to specific state workforce development and unemployment offices.
  • Serve as a liaison between management and employees by handling questions/concerns, interpreting policies and procedures and assist in resolving work-related problems.
  • When applicable, conducts and documents HR related investigations, including, but not limited to, EEO complaints, harassment complaints and general employee issues.
  • Assists with review, revision and update of employee handbook as needed.
  • Maintains professional demeanor in dealing with critical/confidential information; restricts discussion/knowledge of activity to a “need to know” basis.
  • Enhances department and organization reputation by accepting ownership for accomplishing new and different requests; exploring opportunities to add value to job accomplishments.
  • Other duties as may be assigned.

 

Marginal Duties and Functions

  • Manage special projects, including compilation of data, data analysis and report preparation/generation.
  • Ensures the Company complies with all federal, state, and local laws governing employment.
  • Assist management with overseeing employee performance evaluation and career development process

 

Qualifications

To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily.

 

Education/Experience

Required

  • Bachelor’s degree in Human Resources, Business Administration or related discipline strongly preferred.
  • 7 or more years of experience in Human Resources required
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, both written and verbal
  • Proficiency of MS Excel and Word applications required.

 

Preferred

  • Experience working in a construction environment preferred.
  • Experience working in an union/labor work environment preferred
  • Familiarity with all federal, state and local employment law preferred
  • Experience working with Success Factors or other HRIS applications

 

Work Requirements

  • Strict adherence to safety requirements and procedures as outlined in the Employee Handbook.
  • Willingness to work in a team environment and assist co-workers or supervisors with other duties as required.
  • Must be willing to travel and work away from home when required.
  • Must be willing to work nights and weekends when necessary.
  • Ability to travel to/from various work sites

 

Knowledge/Skill Requirements

  • Knowledge of human resources policies and procedures.
  • Highly effective oral and written communication skills required.
  • Ability to operate office equipment including, but not limited to: computers, copiers, ten key adding machine, printers, etc.
  • Ability to analyze issues independently.
  • Ability to perform under deadline pressure.
  • Ability to understand and follow complex verbal and written instructions.
  • Ability to meet attendance schedule with dependability and consistency.
  • Ability to maintain the highest level of integrity, professionalism, fairness and confidentiality in all aspects of job performance.
