Position Overview

 

This position offers a diverse set of accounting related job responsibilities. The desired candidate will embrace a team concept when completing assigned tasks along with a strong commitment to do whatever is necessary to perform high quality work, meet deadlines and finish assigned tasks.

 

Roles and Responsibilities

 

Essential Duties and Functions

  • Provide leadership and development to a team of five accounting personnel.
  • Manage the closure of the monthly financial statements. Prepare monthly journal entries, reconcile balance sheet accounts, prepare monthly financial statements, and assist with cash management duties if assigned.
  • Develop strong working relationships with business leaders to ensure a strong understanding, control and financial management of those business lines (actual, forecast & budget).
  • Recommends performance improvement actions by analyzing financial / operating performance
  • Lead the consolidation of forecasts and budget data throughout the year.
  • Ensure internal controls are maintained to safeguard the financial assets of the company.
  • Engage as necessary in the execution of Project Compass process improvement and standardization.
  • Provide company president, CFO, business line leaders and other internal customers (TNY, North, Oldcastle) with financial analysis assistance where needed (incl. capital investments & acquisitions).
  • Prepare weekly performance scorecards to provide Executive Management with key performance indicators.
  • Co-ordination and execution of internal and external audits.
  • Manage the preparation of the mid-year / year-end IFRS financial packs.
  • Maintains professional demeanor in dealing with critical/confidential information; restricts discussion/knowledge of activity to a “need to know” basis.
  • Regular and predictable attendance at assigned times is required.
  • Ad hoc duties to cover absence of team members. Cross train team members to ensure knowledge transfer and development.

 

Marginal Duties and Functions

  • Assist other departments with special projects as needed.
  • Other duties as may be assigned.

 

Qualifications

 

To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily.

 

Education/Experience

 

Required

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related discipline
  • Strong Microsoft Office proficiency, especially Excel.
  • Effective analytical and communication skills required.

Preferred

  • 5+ years of experience in a financial accounting environment preferred.
  • CMA, CPA, or MBA preferred.
  • Proven ability to develop relationships and to work with teams as both a leader and a participant.

 

Work Requirements

 

  • Strict adherence to safety requirements and company procedures as outlined in the Employee Handbook.
  • Must be willing to travel and work away from home when required.
  • Must be willing to work nights and weekends when required.

 

Knowledge/Skill Requirements

 

  • Ability to work in a fast-paced, technical, cross-functional environment.
  • Strong Project Management experience.  Must be able to prioritize.
  • Detailed oriented with the ability to work autonomously.
  • Excellent visual design sense regarding clear and accurate presentation of data.
