Job Description Summary

This is a skilled position involving the preparation and submission of cost estimates, bid proposals, and management of awarded projects.  Qualified individuals should increase sales and margin by being customer oriented, assertive, well organized, and goal oriented. Relationship skills are critical to this position.  A qualified individual will effectively work with owners, engineers, architects, other project stakeholders, and other company personnel at all levels within an organization.

 

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Analyze plans, specifications, proposals and other documents to prepare time, material, equipment, production and labor estimates.
  • Will create accurate bids and write proposals according to customers’ needs as well as bid specifications.
  • Will perform both short and long term market analysis and demand forecasting.
  • Will work closely with owners, engineers, and testing firms to ensure project meets or exceeds owners’ specifications.
  • Regular visits to the field will be required to verify completed and remaining quantities and to monitor progress.
  • Will work closely with project superintendent and other support personnel (hot plants, aggregates, delivery, testing, etc) to ensure projects are completed safely and meet or exceed estimated margin.
  • Will develop and maintain strong relationships with subcontractors and suppliers.
  • Will ensure projects costs and quantities are accurately reported.
  • Will ensure projects are billed accurately and timely.
  • Will ensure projects are built safely, ensure schedules are met, billings are complete and accurate, costs are reviewed and accurate, field personnel understand how the job was bid, change order management, subcontractor management, and owner negotiation & management. 
  • Other duties as assigned by supervisor.

 

Qualifications

Education and/or Experience

Profession Engineer in Civil Engineering, Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering or Construction Management.   Five years construction estimating experience is preferred; or an equivalent of education and experience will be accepted.

 

Language and Communication Skills

Ability to read and comprehend written and oral instructions.  Ability to write correspondence and bid proposals.  Ability to effectively present information in one on one and small group situations to customers, clients, and other employees of the organization. .  Must have excellent written and verbal communication skills.  Must have good negotiating skills.

 

Mathematical Skills

Ability to add, subtract, multiple and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals.

 

Reasoning Ability

Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out written or oral instructions.  Ability to deal with ambiguity while planning and solving problems.

 

Computer Skills

To perform this job successfully, an individual must be proficient in Excel, Word, Outlook, and be familiar with estimating software.
