The Terminal Supervisor has the authority and is fully accountable for the successful execution of the responsibilities listed in this position description in accordance with CRH’s policies and procedures and as limited by the Manager – Sales & Operations.

Scope of Operations:

  • Responsible for maintaining a safe working environment, including coordination facility and / or equipment repairs, and ensure all employees observe safe work practices
  • Ensure Health & Safety compliance under legislation and corporate requirements.
  • Safe operation of the Terminal including inbound rail unloading and outbound semi-truck loading
  • Coordinate, interact and effectively communicate with customers, drivers, sales, logistics, dispatchers and other terminal managers
  • Build a planning tool to manage & maintain silo inventories
  • Ensure environmental standards are complied with and communicate to all terminal employees and maintain all necessary permits.
  • Manage and supervise assigned personnel which includes, but is not limited to, assigning and determining workloads, establishing work schedules, monitoring work, evaluating performance, with a focus on the training, development and involvement of employees.
  • Plan, organize, coordinate and implement all practices related to the accurate and timely rail and truck ordering.  Schedule and coordinate the unloading of rail and truck at the terminal.
  • Ensure that carriers operate within established procedures for safety, environment and customer service.
  • Attend and participate in operations meetings and region planning group meetings.
  • Support, demonstrate, and facilitate the concepts of continuous learning and continuous improvement.
  • Maintain track condition to minimum operable state

Position Function, Purpose:               

Leads, directs and implements departmental initiatives through Management direction and independent business unit needs. Oversees all Terminal employees to ensure each task is performed under safe conditions correctly and productivity meets set standards. Supervises all Terminal personnel and is responsible for Terminal operations.

  • Manage silo inventory by inbound rail and inbound truck
  • Deliver a high level of customer service to all clients and truck drivers
  • Manage outbound truck dispatch in coordination with customers’ orders

  • Ability to plan and prioritize daily duties in order to meet customer needs.
  • Solid coaching skills; able to delegate responsibility.
  • Demonstrated strong self-starting traits and ability to operate effectively with little or no direct supervision.
  • Demonstrated problem solving skills and ability to make sound decisions on available information.
  • Demonstrated technical proficiency for area of responsibility.
  • High work standards and safety awareness

Health and Safety:

  • Maintain safe working environment at all times
  • Foster and encourage a safety culture with team
  • Enforce CRH PPE regulations
  • Maintain all OH&S certifications:  trackmobile, forklift, rail safety, first aid, fall arrest & rescue


  • Several years of experience within a manufacturing environment
  • Preference given to experience handling bulk materials
  • Past history working with railroad and facilities
  • Proven customer service history and ability
  • Leadership skills, having managed over thirty employees at one time
  • Must possess excellent communications skills, both verbal and written
  • Ability to give clear instructions with appropriate follow-up
  • Good organizational skills, ability to run a consistently stable operation
  • Occupational Health and Safety knowledge and application of same
  • Knowledge of maintenance-related terms and procedures
  • Specific knowledge regarding the overall functioning of a cement plant
  • Proficient computer skills, including email and applications such as SAP
  • Ability to work in an outdoor environment, with frequent exposure to heat, cold, dust and noise
