Position Summary


This role will manage drivers in our Spokane, WA location.  The position will focus on trucking execution and customer service while utilizing Telematics and scheduling to drive performance. The selected candidate will possess the ability to develop and maintain a strategic plan for the delivery business which aligns with corporate objectives.  The role will involve customer service, recruitment and retention, staffing, compliance, driver safety and productivity training.


Duties and Responsibilities


  • Provide leadership and direction to the driver work force. Interpret and work effectively within the guidelines of the company charter and union contracts.
  • Directly supervise all drivers, including annual performance appraisals, hiring, discipline, training, and scheduling mentor meetings.
  • Ensure compliance with DOT regulations and assist with audits as required.   Oversee Smith training.
  • Daily coordination with Dispatch Supervisor in implementation of Teamster contract including out of town assignments, driver conduct performance, and attendance.
  • Communicate regularly with Assistant Manager regarding driver efficiency in order to improve productivity.
  • Follow-up on delivery complaints, driver complaints and be observant of quality control problems.
  • Manage applicable union contracts, assign trucks and keep schedule of driver qualifications. Assist with contract negotiations as required.
  • Represent drivers' interests in problems with shop, dispatch, management or office.
  • Excellent computer skills including email, Internet, and Microsoft Office (Excel, Word)
  • Proven ability to develop relationships and effectively communicate with all levels of the organization.
  • Must display a courteous and professional attitude when dealing with co-workers and the public. Extended hours with possible night and/or weekend work as well as overnights.
  • Observe drivers in the field insuring timely and efficient deliveries, excellent customer relations, and safe operation of our equipment.
  • Handle all property damage complaints associated with drivers; insure proper reporting of incidents and follow­ up. Work with dispatch personnel researching truck and driver related information.
  • Coordinate and resolve delivery access problems.
  • Investigate and coordinate with Safety Director regarding all driver related property damage and industrial injury accidents. Complete required reports and take appropriate disciplinary action (warning letter, suspension, termination).
  • Other duties as assigned.


Minimum Requirements


  • High school degree or GED equivalent.
  • Minimum two years experience working in the concrete and aggregate field. Supervisory or equivalent work experience.
  • Current Class A COL and DOT medical card preferred.
  • A valid Drivers License


Knowledge Required


  • Trucking industry knowledge. Customer Service.
  • Computer, radio, and math knowledge preferred.

  • While performing the duties of this job, the employee is occasionally required to crawl, kneel, bend, and reach with hands and arms above their shoulders.     
  • The employee is occasionally exposed to wet and/or humid outside weather conditions; and extreme cold and/or heat.
