Position Overview

 

The district manager supervises all aspects of multiple ready mix batch plants including sales, quality control, staffing, sales, batching ready mix, supervising drivers, and managing production and load out of materials. The district manager is responsible for employee morale and discipline as well as driver/customer relations. District manager holds responsibility for the financial performance of their assigned locations.

 

Key Responsibilities (Essential Duties and Functions)

 

The duties and responsibilities include but are not limited to the following:

  • Promote a safe working culture for all employees; work with safety and field personnel to minimize risk and increase safety for employees at all times.
  • Responsible for daily operations including safe production, quality, customer focus and maintaining the integrity of the safety and environmental systems within company’s operations for ready mix.
  • Drive operational performance and improvements to meet or exceed company and regional goals.
  • Provide leadership and direction to ensure efficiency, quality, service, and cost-effective management of resources.
  • Lead team in personal performance management, training and development, succession planning and effective recruiting and hiring.
  • Ensure company policies, procedures and work rules are met: discipline when necessary and document all employee performance issues.
  • Supports management in operations in an efficient and safe manner while complying with all local, state and federal regulations, including but not limited to: OSHA, MSHA, DEP, etc.
  • Build and maintain strong customer and supplier relationships.
  • Oversee production of quotes and proposals for projects.
  • Maintain strong understanding of all competitors’ actions, pricing and strategy.
  • Cost responsibility over their assigned locations. Strive to lower cost and increase productivity through efficiency and innovations.
  • Conduct meetings as needed.
  • Ensure management of jobsite quality control testing.
  • Conduct periodic forecast and ensure maintenance of accurate inventory control.
  • Responsible for the development and performance of all sales activities in assigned market.
  • Establishes plans and strategies to expand the customer base in the marketing area.
  • Regular and predictable attendance at assigned times is required.
  • Other duties as may be assigned. 

 

Work Requirements

 

  • Must be 18 years in age or older.
  • Must pass pre-employment physical, drug screen and criminal background check.
  • Strict adherence to safety requirements and procedures per company policy.
  • Willingness to work in a team environment and assist co-workers or supervisors with other duties as required.
  • Must be willing to travel and work away from home when required.
  • Must be willing to work nights and weekends when necessary.
  • Individual is required to wear personal protective equipment (PPE) in designated operations and production areas as stated by OSHA and/or MSHA. Protective equipment that may be required, but not limited to, for this position is: Face Shield, Safety (hard toe) Shoes and Safety Vest.

Supervisory Responsibilities

 

Carry out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the company policies, procedures, and applicable laws.  Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

  • Willingness to develop direct reports’ technical and leadership skills and make recommendations for new job opportunities when appropriate.
  • Effective management of employee performance through coaching, feedback (written and verbal), rewards, and discipline when necessary.
  • Addressing complaints and resolving problems in a timely manner.
  • Ability to get work done through others using effective delegation, scheduling, and time management practices.

 

Qualifications

 

To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily.

 

Education and Experience

 

  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent from two-year college or technical school; or two to four years related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.  (Preferred) 
  • Eight years in a management role within the construction industry specifically in ready mix, aggregates, or construction.  (Highly Preferred)

 

Knowledge/ Skills

 

  • Ability to prepare budgets and work with and/or administer budget; ability to answer questions and present financial data to General Manager and others.
  • Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals. 
  • Ability to write routine reports and correspondence. 
  • Strong organizational skills.
  • Ability to communicate effectively with employees and customers through multiple channels; phone, email, text, WebEx, etc.  Individually or group settings.
  • Effective interpersonal and communication skills; building rapport, listening, presenting, giving and receiving feedback.
  • Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals.
  • Ability to deal with problems involving a few concrete variables in standardized situations.
  • Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.

  • Proficient with Windows, Excel, Word, and PowerPoint.
