Provide relevant career experiences while meeting organizational needs.
Program Overview:
This internship will be a supervised work experience for a student currently enrolled in a college program, majoring in Business with an emphasis on Finance and/or Accounting. This program will be designed to expose the intern to a variety of experiences tied to specific learning goals which will be identified at the beginning of the intern’s tenure. These learning experiences include but are not limited to:
- Develop and improve business skills (communication, technology, quantitative reasoning and teamwork) – daily/weekly/monthly tasks providing opportunity to learn interaction with team of people, identifying and solving problems, working with various financial tools (excel, viewpoint, etc)
- Observation – Attending meetings; visiting plant sites – inventories, fixed assets; SOX audit
- Applying business concepts and theories to real world decision making - individual short term /long term project.
- Presentation – present project or idea to a group
Program Guidelines:
The following guidelines apply to this program:
- Interns will be chosen from a group of applicants interviewed by the managers of the departments the intern will be working with.
- This program is designed for the accounting and finance departments, the experience goals for each intern should be developed specifically to benefit both the intern and the division they are working with.
- The experience goals will be identified prior to the intern starting so an intern training plan can be developed.
- The duration of the internship, start date, rate of pay and benefits, and resources needed will be identified prior to start.
- Company Policies and expectations will outlined at the beginning of internship
- At the end of the program, an evaluation of the program will be done by both the intern and the managers.
Experience Goals:
Experience goals will be identified prior to internship start date and should include but are not limited to:
- Reconciliations: Bank recs, GL balance sheet accounts, sub ledger to GL.
- Entering and posting journal entries
- Calculating and posting accruals
- Posting and reviewing production and inventory
- Using existing and building excel worksheets
- Data entry into Viewpoint – Accounting software
- Assist with month end deadlines
- Introduction to Hyperion for Financial Reporting
- Understanding of Standard costing and average costing
- Fixed asset accounting
- Observing POS systems and plant site visits
- Special Projects as assigned
- Updating and documenting procedures and instructions
- Exposure to sales tax processes
Intern Training Plan:
Plan will be set up to identify work flow prior to start by department managers.
