Job Description


Responsible for monitoring, enforcing and directing a work environment that will reduce risk, OSHA/MSHA recordable injuries, reduce lost time, reduce workers compensation claims frequency and cost.  This position is responsible for all EH&S initiatives, including the Health and Welfare programs, workers compensation and general liability administration.  This position will work closely with all levels of management and hourly employees to ensure safety and health work standards and methodologies are communicated and targeted goals are achieved through individual as well as team based objectives and strategies for aggregates and asphalt construction.




  • To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily.
  • Ensure EH&S processes are based on a foundation to pro-actively identify risk, prevent injuries and illnesses, and facilitate compliance within aggregates and asphalt construction.
  • Ensuring that safety and health, environmental, and commercial fleet transportation related platforms and procedures are systemic, integrated into the business and preventative.
  • Advising and assisting operations management in implementing, managing and auditing within the framework of an innovative EH&S Management Systems in a manufacturing and construction setting
  • Work with Regional/Division EH&S  teams in determining strategic national initiatives and developing policies/procedures
  • Work with the government and regulatory agencies – MSHA, OSHA, DOT, etc. during site inspections and to ensure the company meets and exceeds the regulations established by those entities; to include employee training, facilities, recordkeeping and in all matters relating to safety.
  • Report all violations of environmental permits, rules and regulations to company management personnel and, when required by operational permits, to duly authorized regulatory agencies.
  • Develop and implement environmental compliance plans for programs such as air quality, storm water discharges, oil spill prevention or control, recycling, managing hazardous materials, employee education and so on.




  • 5+ years’ related experience in construction and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and aggregates and asphalt construction preferred. 
  • Safety or related degree highly preferred.
  • Demonstrated success in managing employees.


Work Requirements


  • Safety training experience preferred
  • CPR/First Aid Instructor certification
  • Defensive Driving Instructor or Smith System Instructor
  • MSHA Training Instructor
  • Must have a state issued valid driver’s license
  • Excellent communication skills, verbal and written
  • High level of computer proficiency in MS Office products
  • Expert knowledge of OSHA certified for 10 and 30 hours of instructions
  • Expert knowledge of MSHA rules and regulations
  • Strong analytical and technical skills

  • Able to stand, walk, use hands and fingers to manipulate objects or controls, climb or balance, stoop, kneel, crouch, crawl, talk and hear.
  • Vision abilities (with correction) include close, distance, peripheral, depth, and the ability to adjust focus.
  • Able to safely drive a vehicle for long periods of time.
  • Able to work extended hours if needed.  
  • Able to work in all weather conditions.
