Position Overview


The Manager of Performance Improvement is responsible for working with the operational leadership of the individual businesses within the North Division of Oldcastle’s Material Group to identify and implement a variety of initiatives designed to improve commercial performance and operational excellence.  The incumbent will be assigned to 2-3 lines of business, and will provide internal consulting and project management services across all of the nine companies in the North Division to enable each company to share and leverage best practices, execute against agreed upon business improvement strategies, and realize near to mid-term financial results.  The successful candidate will possess a strong balance of strategic thinking, business and financial acumen, operational orientation, influence, and change management skills.


Key Responsibilities


  • Facilitate business improvement initiatives by aligning with company Presidents and Division Performance Committee leaders on the key priorities across each line of business
  • Manage individual projects, monitor overall portfolio performance, and ensure progress against targeted metrics.
  • Communicate results, and share proven tactics and best practices across the division to enable adoption.
  • Coordinate the decision-making process related to investments and resources required to support the agenda of the business line improvement efforts.
  • Analyze current business performance and identify short and long term strategic initiatives needed to support the company’s growth plans.
  • Interfaces with all levels of company and division management to drive engagement and adoption of relevant processes and programs at the individual company level.
  • Work across select lines of business, including Aggregates, Asphalt, Construction, Ready Mix, Transportation, and Equipment to promote the Company’s performance improvement programs and methodologies over time.


Qualifications & Preferred Education and Experience


  • Bachelor’s degree in, Business, Finance, or related degree or the equivalent in relevant experience, an MBA is a plus.
  • Direct experience in the strategy planning, business process improvement, and / or business consulting in a multi-billion dollar organization. 
  • Experience establishing business processes and managing performance
  • Experience in the building materials, mining or construction sectors is a plus, but not a requirements


Additional Knowledge/Skill Required


  • Proven track record of managing business improvement initiatives that delivered meaningful and measurable results.
  • Strong leadership skills with the ability to maintain a wide range of multi-site relationships at all levels of the organization and the ability to effectively define and manage change.
  • Demonstrated ability to get positive results through influence, persuasion, leadership, presentations, training, and group facilitation skills.
  • Ability to think strategically with strong analytical and problem solving skills.
  • High ethical standards.
  • Excellent communication skills (both oral and written).
  • Thorough understanding of financial and operational management and the practical organizational dynamics that impact the results of change efforts.
