Oldcastle Precast is actively interviewing for a Dispatch/Transportation Manager for our Wilsonville, OR operation. This position will ultimately manage the following; All outbound freight, boom truck fleet, packing slip process, support and assist in managing customer expectations, and exceed the teams’ financial (revenue, margin expectations, TWC, EBIT…) and non-financial goals. The Transportation Manager supports the sales life cycle. They will support the team’s primary focus of financial success through outstanding customer service, strong market presence, project understanding, and customer relationships. Exhibit superior market and product knowledge, and complete project awareness. Within the sales cycle, will take ownership of the fulfillment end of the process; be the face of Oldcastle on the phone and on the project site. The scope of the role and responsibilities are outlined below but are not meant to be all encompassing.


Essential Duties


Manages all outbound freight

  • Coordinates with the Project Managers and customers to schedule freight loads to the customers’ projects.
  • Utilizes a freight scheduling system, and trains others to be able to use it in his absence.
  • Communicates with all hired haul trucking company’s dispatchers to make sure we have the trucks needed to fulfill our customers’ expectations.
  • Utilizes our boom trucks to maximize our internal freight revenue.
  • Regularly meets with hired haul management and dispatchers to improve relationships and identify any recurrent issues.
  • Insures that all products that leave our yards have their associated paperwork.
  • Insures that each load leaving the yard is checked against the picking / packing slip for accuracy, and corrects any discrepancies immediately.
  • Takes ownership of load securement. They stay on top of requirements and educates both boom truck and hired haul drivers.

Manages our boom truck fleet

  • Schedules our boom trucks to maximize our freight revenue.
  • Manages our boom truck operators’ time and utilizes them in other capacities during non-driving time.
  • Takes oversight to insure our boom truck trucking logs are complete, accurate and timely.
  • Oversees boom truck maintenance staff.
  • Creates and maintains a preventative maintenance program to maintain the boom truck fleets roadworthiness.
  • Holds regular internal truck drivers meetings to identify project trends, truck and safety issues, along with any other pertinent information that is helpful to our operations.
  • Takes part in mid-year and yearend reviews for all drivers.
  • Maintains the TSC reporting system, making assignments as needed.
  • Manages all maintenance records in the TMS system.

Manage the packing slip process

  • Takes ownership of the Packing slip process, he develops and manages the paperwork process for each location. He is responsible for insuring that all products that leave any of our yards have been properly accounted for in the computer system and prepared for invoicing.
  • Insures that all outstanding picking and packing slips are accounted for and processed daily.
  • Oversees two other Oregon location transportation document handling.
  • Receives freight invoices daily, checking invoice amounts against actual embedded freight, and special freight quotes. They correct issues with vendors promptly.

Assists in managing customer expectations

  • Responds to customer’s Individual needs in a service oriented manner, quickly addressing issues. Demonstrating knowledge of our customer’s business, needs, and expectations.
  • Returns phone calls, emails and other communications in a timely manner.
  • Is able to diagnose issues and communicate resolutions with Confidence, Integrity and Empathy.
  • Is able to articulate issues with their customer and all internal departments, working towards proper and timely resolutions.
  • Executes prompt communication with the Field Representative and Outside Sales as issues arise on projects. Stays connected to the conversation as part of the solutions team.
  • Develops good working relationships with customers, specifically Project Managers, estimators, project foremen and purchasing people.
  • Should have a pleasant disposition, good phone etiquette, and able to communicate in a professional manner. 


Understands and exceeds the teams’ financial and non-financial goals

  • Visits the plant to learn our processes and capabilities build relationships and assist in the safety program through BBSO and other personal observations.
  • Actively partners with other departments to evaluate and capitalize on cost reduction and efficiency improvement strategies.
  • Should have solid mathematics skills, understanding financial calculations.

Additional responsibilities

  • Maintains the gasket warehouse, keeps it clean and well organized.
  • Is responsible for ordering stock warehouse items (gaskets, conseal, grout, lifting devices…).
  • Insures that all packing slips attached to delivered product are taken to local AP personnel for processing.


Required Skills / Knowledge


  • A solid understanding of FMCS regulations.
  • 3+ years’ experience in manufacturing and shipping/receiving.
  • Previous experience in Precast shipping/manufacturing recommended.
  • Basic knowledge of accounting, purchasing, sales, marketing, or related field.
  • Strong organizational, communication and people skills.
